i see your ludicrous 145.022 and raise you one absurd 105.003 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OMEGA-SPE...002691?hash=item237f900e83:g:90UAAOSwCU1YvwJSPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Absurd, yes. But do you hope he gets it...or not? In other words: at what point has your existing Speedmaster collection appreciated so much that you actually feel bad that a lot of newbs are priced out of joining in on the fun?
The person that re-finished that watch obviously feels that a Speedmaster case should double as a shaving device.
Well this is my hobby. Personally I don't like the rapid increase in values as it is either fueled by fashion or naivety but no doubt the rises, as with Daytonas, will be permenant. Or at least the bulk of it. I keep buying sub $500 chronograph from 1970's. Because they look cool don't cost too much and I can wear them. So no. I don't like the rapid increase in values. But I can't stop it.
I have to say that I don't agree that the price rises have been fuelled by fashion (which denotes a fairly temporary attraction) or by Naivity. The 60's Speedmasters just have everything going for them and I have long thought them to be undervalued. Imvho it's just old fashioned economics - demand has increased but supply is low. Of course as a long time collector I am slightly p*****d off that I am being priced out of the market, but I knew this day would come and take some satisfaction that the Speedmaster is at last being recognised for the watch it is. And I do feel bad for newbs who are unable to join the fun (although you can still buy a later Speedy pro for around £2k.) The flip side is that, like you, I have begun to look at other watches as well and there are plenty of fine, affordable Omegas out there for small money.
It seems eBay is going all sorts of crazy with Omega recently: Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/122401123803Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Man, what a rip off that is! Answer questions before he'd sell? What? Who is this seller?! @Taddyangle
