    Dear all,

    Been offered the following speedmaster.

145.012 produced in august 1968. It should fall within the ultraman range production range. It also comes with a very recent Extract of the Archives where it states “special model fitted with an orange chronograph hand” and that it was delivered to the Navy, Army and Airforce institutes.

So far so good and very interesting to me.

However clearly noticable the alsmost flashy red/orange hand that does not seem to be correct. Way to flashy and seems a bit short. So 100% not the original ultraman hand... must be from a Mark II or something.

    - what are first thoughts of this?

    - would the original hand still be available at Omega?

    - what would be a correct “replacement” hand if the original is not at hand anymore?

I have a serious interest in the piece and therefore I hope some of you can give me their thoughts on this specific watch.

What's the asking?? It's all relative to it...

I am not an expert on the orange hand, but I've read some good pointers on the speedmaster101 site.

The asking is probably really insane though... I simply don't know if the Ultraman hype warrants it. My gut says not really.

My first (2c worth of) thoughts : I don’t get the whole hype with the orange hand enough to justify the 7x alleged price difference to a regular 145.012 (apparently the dial too is slightly different but as of writing nobody has yet illustrated that point clearly and photographically...it’s not soleil or racing different) ... regardless, the thing which thus ‘costs’ 7x more is the original orange hand (combined with the extract, which one doesn’t wear on the wrist)...which this one doesn’t have. As such, I personally wouldn’t value it more than a regular 145.012 of the same condition. But that’s just me. YMMV. And no, vintage ultraman hands are no longer available.

Edit : some observations : bezel is wrong, crown is service, and dial lume looks ‘stabilized’ (ie shiney clear coating over plots) ... and incase it wasn't obvious...orange hand is wrong...

There is a good chance with that one that the seller applied for an extract on an otherwise unremarkable Pre-Moon and thought he had hit the jackpot when it came back as an UM. He then acquired a new orange hand to make the watch look the part but it would need to be cheap to be a good buy as there are several major issues as pointed out above.,

You wouldn't get an UM- Extract with at least pictures of the watch send. There is no remark in the Archives that states "Ultraman". They wouldn't provide this because the only prof is in the Watch being a Ultraman with all specifics it has.
Think simple: I have seen this before, a regular genuine Ultraman is either brought there or at least has been illsutrated with pictures when ordering the Extract, it gets the Extract, the owner swaps the orange hand and voila, now you have two instead of one..ruthless, gross, greedy, stupid..and it happend before..

Was the Ultraman not defined by a serial number range? Seems odd that Omega would issue a "special orange chrono hand" extract just because somebody sent them a picture of one.

Why do you wish to replace the original orange hand?

Add "Orange hand is wrong" as its clearly not an original Ultraman hand. It's too short and too thick::popcorn::

Again you didn't understand the concept. It's more than a serial. It would be odd if the Extract would be issued based on just a serial.

Would be a trade deal with a Patek Philippe aquanaut which is “equally high” in price... basically also a peak value in this crazy market. I would say end 20k, beginning 30k€

I was under the impression that on the extract at least the (correct) orange hand would have to be mentioned based on serial number and that the orange hand would not be leading. Wondering what can be considered “the crucial factor”... either the original hand, the mentioning on the Extract or only the combination.

Anyone have information on the possibility of Omega having NOS ultraman hands?
Seen the fact that a chronograph hand is quite “fragile” at some point in time it will wear out on the place where it is fixed to the second axle. So what would Omega use to replace it with?

    We don’t know...

At least currently we don’t know. In the past the remarks field could have user specified data not verified by the Omega. We have also heard in the past that these had to be verified by the museum. And we have seen Ultramans in the past marked differently on the extract, but like this recently.

The extract process is not very transparent, and some processes have appeared to change over the years.

I know I've seen 3 MOD watches of the same age with extracts ordered years apart and all labeled differently. Some said delivered to MOD in notes, some said delivered to MOD in the delivered to section, and famously a non MOD watch in the remarks section marked MOD.

Re-read my post. It was a UM when the extract was issued. The Hand was taken off to make a second UM.
