I am considering this Speedy but wondering what you all think about the condition. Unfortunately no caseback or movement pics yet but should have them tomorrow. The seller is asking speedy 101 collector grade price and I'm not sure if this is collector grade, or even all correct? Thanks in advance for any opinions. Cheers!
"The seller is asking speedy 101 collector grade price and I'm not sure if this is collector grade, or even all correct" The rent in Beverly Hills might be a part of that....
Thanks Spacefruit. I think the bottom pusher seems a little funky? Do you see other issues from these photos or just need more info from movement and inner caseback? He is looking for $7500! Is that just way overpriced?
It's a nice looking watch. I think 'collector' grade is generally reserved for pretty much unobtainable watches, more as a reference of the very best you could hope for. With that in mind, this watch probably isn't at that level. As to whether it's worth the cost, well, it only takes one buyer to make it so. Ebay lists quite a few with BIN prices in the ~$6700 range, but they don't move quickly. Something like this could be had for $4450 The watch in the original post is obviously much nicer looking. $3K better looking? That's a essentially the decision.
On closer inspection it's not the BH watch. I see two sellers who post photos of hands with watches, apart from Jackomond, (who's watch has been there for some time - very nice guy though). Of these two sellers one is very good, Yorkshire good, and one is operaticaly awful. Either way it is a strong price, but impossible to judge on these photos. Too much yellow light. It could be a very nice watch. I think that dial might have have a very nice colour. But I cannot tell for sure
Followup, decided to look at this one face to face. Liked what I saw, got the price down and done the dirty Case clearly unpolished, dial nice life to it and DON pretty darn clean.
...and another really really nice late 60's Speedy is scored by a forum member. We as a community have been doing quite well lately it seems. Congrats, that Speedy is super!
That's one of the best -68's I've ever seen, Dgercp! Looks like the dial is turning just slightly dark chocolate. Congrats on the catch.
The chrono hand is a service replacement right? *edit: had a look at mwo and i now see both hands are possible..
Might it be more accurate to say Omega used both executions in 1967-1969 (approximately) as I have seen both on purportedly original watches? http://speedmaster101.com/blog/square-or-drop-end-chrono-hand/
Mine says hello! Congrats and nice find P.S. Did yours come with the period correct bracelet? @Dgercp
You know, seller showed me a bracelet and I just said no because I like wearing these on straps. But, maybe I should Follow up with him and buy the bracelet if correct just to have it for resale value??
I would follow up with him and find out.. I'm not sure what you paid but if it was anywhere near 7.5K then the bracelet should come with it IMHO. Thanks, the sunlight certainly doesn't show all of the details but it shows the DON bezel without defect
@Spacefruit: The only thing I can confirm is, what I'm owning by myself. I have a nearly unworn full original 145.012-67, movement # 260xxx with old style chronosecond and a a nearly unworn full original 145.012-67, movement # 265xxx with new style chronosecond. I have no clue if Omega has used both types parallel or if there was a cut in 1967 after ser 260xxx. Both watches have the tall Omega logo at crowns and crystals.
