https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23509/lot/126/ Just made £3800 + premium (£1140) so near as dammit £5k watch. If it had a DON bezel that could be a fair price but seems a bit steep with a replacement bezel. I think the bracelet may be not be original to the watch, too? I also first thought the chrono hand might be wrong but then realised the hand was switched from the drop to flat bottom the during the -68 cycle.
I'd say those hands look original to that watch. Apart from the service bezel and bracelet, it looks great. Loads of lume, decent case. £1140 in premiums though?!?!?!
Yes, the flat bottomed chrono hand came in during the 145.012 - according to http://speedmaster101.com/145-012/ and MWO comments that the transition from drop to flat bottomed chrono hands was gradual and both continued for some time. There is a photo of a -68 in MWO with a supposedly original drop hand, which is why I presumed that the transition happened on the -68 but SM101 shows a -67 with a flat hand that's supposedly original so I guess either could be the case.
Isn't the true winner always the auctioneer (or the individual brokering the sale and getting a commission)?
http://speedmaster101.com/blog/bonhams-13th-september-2016/ It sold strongly, but as expected in a B&M sale. The other cal 321 was interesting as it had a 15m serial. A brother to the 2915 for £2500.
