EDIT: I apologise if this post read like I'm soliciting offers. I am not. This watch is not for sale. Should I decide to sell, I'll post to the correct FS subforum.

I acquired this recently after hankering for a "proper vintage speedy". Especially a pre-moon, column wheel 321. I soon learned these are very hard to find in reasonable condition and change hands for Daytona money.

I'd judge the condition of this one to be somewhere between "Running" to "Good" and paid between these as defined by speedmaster101

I'm in two minds whether to hold or sell this piece. To my eye it's pretty polished and the bracelet is awful (IMO only) but as best I can tell, it looks correct.

I believe the hands to be service replacements but the dial and bezel looks nice. It runs fine and seems to be keeping time.

Could anyone comment on whether they think this is a keeper? Or if they see any significant flaws I may not be seeing (pushers, crown etc).

    Thanks for any feedback.

Edit: On the last photo there IS an acid etched hippocampus that didn't photo well.

Having incorrect parts does not mean it would not be a 'keeper'. What are your goals/ wants? Would you sell and look for a better example?

The color balance seems way off in the pics you provided, as the lume is not showing as yellow at all. Better photos in better light would help in judging that. Seconds hand looks like a replacement. Case has been polished to death -- looks like someone tried to convert it to a straight lug -- that right kind of kills the attraction to collectors.

Any pics of the back? How about the inner face of the case back and movement?

I think the lume is gone - appears to have been scraped off.

I don't think so. Look at the end of the '1' marker -- it is curved. and the lume on the hands also looks white.

Depends on what you're after, imho. If you want a watch you can wear without care, this is a good candidate, though it does have some issues. If you want something to stuff in the safe, maybe not.

Biggest issue for me is the lume on the markers. It's either thin or mostly gone. Not super attractive to me... but one man's <something something>.

These are good points. What is important to one person may not matter to someone else.

The dial and the bezel look pretty good. Many would love to have a cal 321. It would be interesting to see what the movement looks like.

I was looking for an occasional wearer that would go into rotation with the rest of my collection.

I'm not looking for a concourse, collectors condition version but I do want something as close to correct (if not original) as my budget will allow.

I'll get the case back off and post more pics this weekend hopefully.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

Can you point me to one that I can comapre to?

Should the tritium lume have a puffy, raised texture?

I would agree about the patina (lack of) but something toffee colored goes for considerably more than what I paid for this one...

321's are becoming so hard to find; I took the opportunity on this one when it presented itself... "Who Dares... ends up broke" or <something><something>

Which do you prefer? Because that’s all that matters. But here is a ‘difference’ to compare to...

The case breaks my heart. Someone should be made to pay!

The most valuable thing, besides the movement (if it’s any good), is the bezel. With the right hands, the dial would be ok. If you could live with a DNN replacement bezel, I bet you could trade for a 321 watch with a better case, dial and hands.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with the hands apart from the color...

I’m being picky. A little too much patina for me and a bit of paint loss; they’re okay, just not a special color. I’m not sure they match color of the lume on the hour markers. Like I said, I’m being picky.

    Lovely dial!

But that crystal is crying out for a little Polywatch...

This eBay watch has been discussed here before.
One of the most overpolished Speedies I've ever seen. Even the crown & pushers were polished! ... 321 or not, I would not be happy with this piece...

Don't mean to be a downer. As many others have pointed out, if the watch speaks to you and you enjoy seeing it on your wrist everyday, it is a keeper. Don't let others decide for you.

However, if you left it up to me, I'd move this one along.
