Not surprising. $8k for 145.012 on bracelet + B&P is a pretty strong offer, considering they've begun selling in the mid-7s with better bezels, but none of the additional stuff

I don't agree with the 'great case' description but I think the price was fair, with the dealer premium. Plenty of people would've been asking more for that, with all the extras.

I'm not surprised it went so quick.

Agree. I've actually been impressed with the restraint they've shown in pricing for quite a few cool examples.

I was surprised it was still there around lunchtime -- the linen Datejust, Zenith 156, the Zodiac Panda Triple Calendar, and a couple others were all gone by then, and the Speedmaster was still up.

This all just makes me feel more justified in panicking two months ago and grabbing the most honest 321 Speedy I could find (my original plan was to save/invest until 2017). Price seemed high at the time for a beat-up, basic 145.012, but this one from Hodinkee is priced almost double. Take off $500 for B+P, $500 for better condition, and $1,000 for the Hodinkee/dealer bump, and that's still a ~40% jump/return.

This one from Jackmond that I believe @Spacefruit said somewhere else on the forum "looked tired in person" used to be listed at $6,800. I passed on this one two months ago because of the inconsistent lume chipping. And the price -- I assumed it was an attempt to pull the overall market up with a prominent eBay listing. But now it's up for $7,500, with a slightly different listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OME...APH-321-PRE-MOON-REF-145-012-67-/151776218490Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Still waiting for the plateau :whistling:

Still tired-looking IMO - bezels are easier to find replacements for than dials (for now). He won't get $7500; he'll be lucky to get 6

Yes, the case was definitely polished. Agree that that part of the listing was flawed, but the price was still fair IMO.

Exactly what Chicago said. The case had been polished a fair bit, but had it been sharp, they could probably have sold it for $9k+

Yup. Was just curious about your own calculus. They even say "well preserved lugs" despite the obvious curved out edge on the 4 o'clock lug. Makes me worried about their whole supposed honest "here's the Good, here's The Bad" approach. Probably just a miss, but still unexpectedly dubious...

I hate to say it, but does the Hodinkee buyer care about the case polish? Assuming that the Speedy buyer is in the same boat as the DJ buyers, ones that paid $3-$3.5k for a run of the mill DJ, do they really know enough to care about a proper, original case polish? This buyer will most likely be sharing this watch at the next RBC meet up bragging on the original case polish...

To me their target audience is the crowd that has more money than experience, wants instant gratification, and needs someone to tell them, "this is a badass watch..."

I could be way off in my assumption.

Iooked seriously at this when at 6800$...but now 7500, the 8K for the hodinkee one looks like a bargain now

@watchknut maybe a very *tad* bit harsh (everyone needs a jumping off point) but I think you're definitely on point. They're like a mega-branded dealer.

But what those guys pay for run-of-the-mill watches will (given enough documented instances) dictate the market for the rest of us (unfortunately). I myself paid above market (at the time) for what (at the time) was a run-of-the-mill example out of fear of scarcity, and it would be a steal now.

I'm pretty sure the fact that it "came from Hodinkee" probably makes it worth it to the RBC type. Lots of stunting, not so much detail-sweating
