    Hi guys,
I was out collecting reference numbers for 13zn and 30ch models and wondered if there is already a comprehensive list of references out there already?
    Thanks

I do not know of a comprehensive list of 13ZN references, apart from Longines' archive. The list is undoubtedly, very long.

On Orologi & Passioni, a list of 30CH references was started a while back. Given that fewer references exist and numbers generally appear on case-backs, this list would be much easier to complete.

Regarding your 13ZN list above, the five digit numbers are order numbers, not reference numbers. Additionally, four digit numbers that appear on case-backs in the 1930's and early 1940's are also order numbers and not reference numbers. These 4 digit numbers are found on many early tre tacches (time-only) and mushroom pusher 13ZN's. As far as I know, 4270 is the reference number for mushroom pusher 13ZN's, though there may be others.

It would be easier to make a list of order numbers because the ref number is
only in Longines archives and on original tags and paperwork.

Thanks for your interesting reply. Can I ask how you tell the difference from an order number to a reference number...is it the case that all 5 digit numbers in case backs are indeed order numbers and herald no relevance to the model...also for that piece the only way to find the reference number is to go to longines with the order number etc...
I enclose a pic that ended on ebay some time ago as an example of an "order number" 5 digit example. 20823. s-l1600.jpg DSC_7490.JPG

    Yes.
Almost. You must provide Longines with the serial number, assuming that the case is original to the movement.
The simple answer is experience. But as a general rule, reference numbers do not appear on cases until the mid-late 1940's.

Thanks again for your informative reply DirtyDozen12, I guess if you say references dont appear on Longines watches until mid to late 40s that rules out alot of 13zn pieces seeing as their production line was 36-47.

I'd really like to get my hands on the Goldberger book at some point if it ever appears at a reasonable cost. But beside that and the Watchtime magazine which has a lovely write up on the history of Longines can you recommend any good reading to get me a bit more up to date on the brand of yesteryear when they were at their peak. I know people who are really into the real gems of the vintage world keep some of this info close to their chest but I find it fascinating.
    Kind regards.

I got Goldberger out of the library last week. Not a solution if you want it for a permanent reference though. The photos were great, but more text would make the book 100% more interesting

The ref number is also present on the tag. I have never seen original paperwork from that era.

That's an amazing find, a 13zn from that era with tags....a pretty penny right there. Beautiful piece too!

    Hi,

it´s a cental minute counter on this 23086, not a "red second".
The reference of these is 5699.
