I really love my 1953 Longines (cal.23Z). The case is solid 14ct. I paid a fraction of the OP's budget on an eBay auction. Most excellent timekeeper too.

Pretty enough to take on a date, and a relatively cheap date at that

'55 501 in 18K... paid about $1350 US incl service.

For the record, since the time I started this thread, I have also acquired a nice stainless 167.005 piepan Connie with the help of the generous folks on this board. And still the sickness shows no sign of waning.
