This dial comes from a 105012 that suffered a water damage.
Fortunately the quality of these old speedmaster dials is excellent, so I was able to clean it and remove the rust without altering the original paint.

The little spots and the rust were only superficial, so I cleaned them with a humid q-tip :)

I'm really impressed that you were able to clean the dial so nicely. I'm always amazed when I see a watch that has had water damage and how well it can be repaired. I think Al has shown a few great examples of this.

The dial itself doesn't rust, so if it's just rust laying on top of the dial, it's not hard to remove:

Mind you the risk is a little greater on the dial that the OP cleaned due to age and value, but if done carefully there's not a ton of risk. The paint on Speedmaster dials is not terribly fragile generally speaking...

    Cheers, Al

    Excellent work Al !
This 2998-1 dial also had a water damage but I did not try to clean it. You can see a lot of little spots on the surface.

Amazing Al, do you use any products or just Rodico and a cotton bud?
