Dear Members. After being around here for a while and after buying my first speedie, a 145022-71 with step dial a while ago, i found another watch, that is attractive in my eyes. But it is another price class and so I would like to ask the community for help. I tried to compare the pictures with the information I have found on the internet and come to the conclusion that the watch cannot be that bad. What do you think? Even though it is obviously one of the most common models with straight lugs and does not have a bracelet, it seems to me quite attractive. Speedmaster101.com‘s pricechart says 17k$ for a good 105003-64. this is about the amount the seller wants to have. But I don’t know if this watch is good in the way sm101 means good. And it has no bracelet. Photo of the back is missing, try to get it soon. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Frank
Couple of points/opinions from me: I'd want better pictures of the case. You say it's a -64 but from those pics the case looks like a slightly polished -65. This needs clarifying and affects where the case falls on the 'running-good' scale. Bezel looks pretty good, but not quite 'good'. Dial is between 'running' and 'good' due to colouration of the lume. The hands concern me as they look very white. I'd want to check how all the lume glows and see more pictures to confirm their originality. If the concerns above check out, it's a nice example but I personally see it between running and good on the price chart.
I agree the hands look white - and the lume is very solid and consistent. Could you ask the seller for a black light shot of the indices and hands? Pushers stems seem thin and set high to my eyes. Could just be the angle of the pic though. Crown looks original. @Davidt makes a good point - Case does look lightly polished. Better pics needed perhaps.
Could be difficult to get better pictures but I would only buy it when I can hold it in my hands before. Sorry about the -64. Buyer say -65, 64 was my thought because of the serial number. Here is a weak photo of the back. Greetings, Frank
As far as im concerned, without commenting on on the watch itself, I'm baffled at the fact that a seller is trying to push a high ticket item with scans of unacceptable quality. A red flag for me and I would keep shopping...
Thank you for all the comments up to now. Obviously I’ve got a lot to learn. I better keep on searching... Kind regards, Frank
If you don't end up buying it, please let me know. According to ilovemyspeedmaster, that is not only a birth year speedy for me but also a high potential for a birth month speedy.
That DON fits into the ‘Good’ category to my eyes. Anyone disagree? The movement looks good with the correct asymmetrical clutch bridge. Dial is not that attractive to me, but that’s personal taste.
My eyes are drawn to the pushers. Are they a bit large?. Maybe replaced with the wrong size pushers?. I think @BatDad is right.
Bad pics are ok when it might be a bargain and you are willing to roll the dice. When someone wants retail, they need corresponding photos....
I'd say the pushers are replacement (bigger), they look the same on mine. 17k, ouch. Better be good at this price.
Absolutely. I would expect straight lugs with no facets on a -64 to me that serial rather falls in very late -64 / early -65... would be interesting to know what do the archives say.
