Seller was asking for £5500 Very Rare 1966 Omega Speedmaster 105.012-66 CB Cal 321 Pre Moon Watch Stunning!Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Wow. That's the one I want back in my collection but not at that price, even for the condition! I sold mine last year for less than $5k USD, and it had a 1039 bracelet...oops...
Thank you. That does seem to be in exceptional cosmetic condition. A watch maker may have an opinion on the hour register repair, but a service is usually a given when you go fishing in the 'bay. My favorite pre-moon (including the highly coveted straight lugs). Just looks damn sexy with its subtle differences. Could be a sign of things to come for the -66 CB? But I still think that was high by $2,500 USD in today money.
Already talked about in another thread. Sold price was more than a nice 2998 bought by a member recently. Is there a gold rush or something?
Do UK buyers pay a higher price for UK watches, which this was, in order to save on high customs duties? Could that have driven up the price?
CBs are an uncommon sub-reference to begin with and have an interesting history, it seems a lot of the 105.012's worn on the moon including the final two on Apollo 17 were CBs. Then if you're specifically after a CB, crisp lug facets are what you want. And yea, from memory UK buyers get bent over by Her Majesty's Treasury to the tune of something like 25% on imports.
A small increase in quality will justify an exponential rise in value I saw this, it is nice. All good things are rising in value, as the value of currencies decrease. Was it "worth" this much? Well of course it is - it sold. We can sit and moan that it was too expensive, but I challenge the people who feel that way to post a watch that good they would sell for less. Obviously you will have to put it on the FS forum to stay within rules, but go on. It might change your mind, values for nices watches are bubbling. The next question is, Is it a bubble or a genuine movement?
People offloading before the Omega Lock Down comes into full effect? I've wondered if I missed the good days of omega hunting.
I won't speak for Stefan but I tend to think it may have been priced for a UK buyer (not necessarily for a U.S. buyer). Here in the US, we (well, I) tend to look globally for the next catch. That said, the price may turn out to be a deterrent for some, after currency conversion ....
Would a watchmaker really put this on eBay in this state with this description? "Chrono function only starts and resets with top pusher. Bottom needs fixing but have been told it's only minor...Time keeping is ok. Not been serviced recently." I wouldn't think so but I could be mistaken. Again.
Hey, we all want to buy low and sell high! Seriously, it may be worth it for someone with a lot of money to waste (and risk for a lemon), but not for everybody since there are a lot of better deals out there.
I wonder if the Omega Prophets of Doom have prepared for The End... Buying Speedmaster service cases, dials, and hands, then putting their 19,xxx,xxx serial movement in it so Omega will service it without fear of replacing original pushers and bezels and dials and hands.... Wait...my joke isn't sounding so crazy now that I read it again... !!!
