    Hi there guys,

I'm looking at a speedy that the seller claims is 105.012-65 but with serial 25xxxxxx. I've looked around a fair bit and I can only see the 145.012 that had this serial number beginning with "25". It has the 321 movement.
The watch is very pretty (to me) but also carries a hefty price tag so want to make sure all OK before pressing the button!

Anyone come across a 25 serial on a 105.012? Photo attached.

    Cheers
    Ben

Thanks. I want to make sure I have a really real 105.012 ::shy::
The case back is double-step and is stamped 105.012-65...

I have been looking through serial numbers 2406xxxx but they seem to only be the 145.012?

Go to Speedmaster101. There you will find serial ranges for a 66 105.012 to be quote:

    Serial Range:

    2453 xxxx-2544 xxxx

The serial range for a 145.012 would be greater than 2.5m
Please post a pic of the inside of the casback

One of the subdial hands looks to be chipped. Unsure if this detracts some value

Again serial range for a 65 according to SM101 is

    2282 5xxx – 2452 7xxx

At 24.06xxxx seems you have a correct HF case 1965.
A extract would clear some concerns but the research seems to show it's all good.

    @beninasia
Based on the movement number, it's also possible that this is a 145.012 outfitted with a 105.012 case back.

    Hi,

What makes you think this is possible if the serial number is in the correct range?

    Cheers!

    Hello mate.
Yes you are quite right. The Speedmaster101 105.012-66 range does begin at 2453XXXX.
It also states that the 105.012-65 reference has an upper range number 24527XXX but It is important to read the footnotes in Speedmaster101.

My understanding of this issue is that the author, @Spacefruit, compiles these figures from 'known watches' and other sources including 'Moon Watch Only'. He states that his observations are subject to refinement. This continuing process of research and revision are part of what make Speedmaster101 such a valuable and trust worthy source of reference. It's important that we study it's contents carefully, including the footnotes, not just scan the reference tables.

Recently, in another thread, several members posted that their 1965 105.012 Watches had movement serial numbers that were later than 24527XXX. My own 105.012-65 also has a serial number 2453XXXX. (My Dad bought this watch approx 50 years ago.)

One of our members posted a pdf file that was part of the Corrections and Updates section on the MWO web site but is no longer available.
(Being careful here because I'm not sure how copywrite law works. MWO is a wonderful resource and I would not want to clumsily plagiarise it's contents.)

Under the heading "Corrections and Updates". The website stated "the correct range of serial is 22.825.xxx - 24.537.xxx instead of 24.527.xxx".
This alteration, of the 4th digit from a 2 to a 3, would place my watch, and other members watches in the corrected 105.012-65 range.

It would be interesting to see what the new edition of MWO states regarding these serial references. Those of us who own these watches would really benefit from this clarification.

So for this one, a 105.012-65, with serial 24.06xxxx, the number falls quite within the range quoted at 22.8xx to 24.52xx so it should be fairly certain that it's correct?

Or am I being too green behind the ears?

    Cheers!

Hello @beninasia . Yes a 2406XXXX Serial number falls well within the 105.012-65 range.
It is only 105.012-65 numbers (such as mine) that are above 24527XXX that I am enquiring about.

Here are 105.012 s/n that I have collected off the web. Some of these stick out like a sore thumb, for instance the 105.012-66 with an 18.945.447 s/n, and are clearly not the correct movement for the watch, but for the most part these reflect the range of s/n for the 105.012
