Hi guys I have recently acquired a 105.012.63 early bird. After some research I have found out it may have the incorrect bezel the DNN rather than DON I was wondering if it would be worth my while trying to locate an original bezel? Does it affect the price much ? I will attach photos. TIA (also a guide on price that watch is worth would be great)

Ps I am also after someone who can service the movement and replace seals.

Congratulations on the watch. I would buy some Polywatch and polish the crystal as a priority as then you can get a much better view of the dial (as I think it might be quite nice but hard to tell at the moment).

Not having a DON bezel does effect the price quite a lot unfortunately. Good ones are hard to find and expensive. The chrono hand should be the tear drop version as well.

Would need a new bezel to increase the value, among other things. It’s certainly an obvious difference. Keep an eye on parts on here as well as eBay, etc.

Thanks for your reply. Regarding The chrono hand would you happen to have a picture of the hand so I can do some digging and maybe locate one. I literally got the watch yesterday so will be cleaning up the face soon. I will post some more photos when I have done it. Thanks again

Thank you for taking the time to reply. What other things would you recommend I need to change to get back to original?

Needs a sweep hand as well. Check out speedmaster101 for a full description of the reference with photos.

Don't kow what you're intending to do with it, but if your plan is to wear it, i suggest having it cleaned from all the previous owner's wrist cheese.

great reference btw
cheers

Yes I do intend to wear it when I get it to the spec I would like it. It came from a car boot sale for 20 pounds so I can put up with a bit of wrist cheese 🧀

Not sure how I feel morally about that. Depends a bit on who you bought it from I guess.

But anyway you can definitely safely invest in buying the correct parts if you want to. You should also buy Moonwatch Only as that has all the information you need to make good choices.

Nice watch. To replace the bezel and hand with period correct items will cost you perhaps £2-£3k so you probably need to decide whether to flip it, leave it as is, or drop serious coin with a view to investment. The bracelet is valuable in its own right btw.

To be honest at the time of buying I didn’t know it was genuine I’m not. Specialist in watches I just liked the look of it and after some Investigation I realised it was not a bad find.

Exactly that. I need to establish what’s the best and most ethical thing to do with it. I have been offered 1500 dollars for the bracelet on this forum. But not sure how I feel about separating it.

Well the bracelet goes a long way to paying for a bezel if the replacement on there bothers you. Personally I'd keep the whole thing as it is.

Ethics doesn't come into it. From one POV (not mine) you already robbed the seller and in any event bracelets were added at the local dealer, not at the factory AFAIK so separating them really boils down to if you think the look as it is warrants leaving £1500 on the table. Many of the the 60s and 70s bracelets look great but aren't all that robust in my experience.

I don’t believe I robbed the seller at all. I had no idea whether it was genuine or not, so I took a punt and paid the price he was asking for it. He was happy with the deal, and I was happy to take the risk.

As for the bracelet, I think I’m going to leave it as it is. I actually like the look of the metal bracelet, and I’d rather keep it together as it stands than change anything.
