I posted a thread around 4 weeks regarding a 105.003 wrongly advertised as a 145.012'67 due to having an incorrect 145.012 caseback. The seller is obviously now aware of the situation and rightly so, and now the sale price has changed accordingly. I'm trying to buy the head only, the case is clean and unpolished, i think the dial is correct and clean , hands look good and bezel, although marked, is quite good. Speedy 101 puts a good example around £6600. I am trying to adjust the price from here but am wondering if finding a correct 105.003 case back will be too much of nightmare to make it worthwhile. I don't really want to over pay for someone's problem!

Everything else checks out(serials etc), although it is unserviced it is running extremely well, has some original paperwork and is 1 owner from new. Taking say £6500 as good, what would you guys suggest deducting for the case back problem, taking the financial hit into account as well as the nightmare of finding one! Thanks for any suggestions..

I'd wear it and start an obsessive search for a caseback or better a 145.012 with an Ed White caseback ;)

It will have an effect on value of course. As a buyer, you might get a few hundred knocked off if you press. As a seller, you may have to take more of a hit if you try to sell it on later.

There was one on ebay about 2 months ago. I can't find the listing, but I think it was over $500 USD when it disappeared.

And in the interim you can go with a Sapphire.

Link to previous thread? From these 2 photos it's tough to confirm 'good'.

you know you are BUYING a problem, right ;-)

Given how erratic the market is for the past 6-12 months - i'd consider it a high-risk endeavour, as people sitting on parts will probably feed of the $2k bezel-frenezy ...

so you might end up having to pay 4 digits for the part ... and there is very little you can do about it ... as demand will be vastly bigger than vintage supply

iow - i'd take off at least $1k over what I'd offer with correct back ...

There is a 105003 caseback for sale on eBay, but it is overpolished.

Yep that's what i was thinking... especially if it's 6-18 months down the line, who knows what asking prices for a decent caseback might be.

It's hard to help with the price as I can't assess the condition of what is there from those two pictures.

I know I'd be knocking off around £400 for the caseback. I don't think it will cost that, but you've got time, effort and the fact that it won't be original to factor in.

I'd also knock £350 off for a service as I believe 101 'good' price is for a serviced watch.

However, in a bull market such as this, you may find that other buyers are prepared to knock off less. It might be more prudent to ask yourself how much hassle can you handle for this watch at a given price.

yep to be honest it's probably a bit under good, they pics I have aren't great and low res, i'm thinking somewhere between £5-5.5k it would be worth a go.

What is the movement number? If you need a 105.003-65 caseback, you have a shot. A 63 or 64, much harder.

I think the bezel is the best part of the package ... I would be on the low side of you estimate or slightly under...since seller did know he had straight lug speedmaster I would be taking this as As a chance to get as low as possible ... You do have the power to walk away ... There will be others for sale for sure ... Problem is you may have to pay for it... I think there is one on eBay now wanting 17 k usd

And I would want to see better pix of the watch that the OP is chasing, particularly of the dial, before proceeding.
