I was searching, but could not find, any data on the number of 105.003 Speedmasters made each year they were in production. Does anyone have any data or know where to find? Thanks.
From Speedmaster101 this gives you an idea re. movement serial No.: -63 20,521,xxx – 20,526,xxx -64 20,527,xxx – 22,827,xxx and 22,089,xxx -65 22,827,xxx – 25,446,xxx
I saw that, but that implies only 5k 1963s, 300k 1964s, 381k 1965s. Is that really correct? As an owner of a 1963, just curious...
Recheck your math. Of the 63's, the rarest have no "T"s. the next rarest have asymmetric "T" s and the most common have close "T"s.
At least for 65's, because that is the last year casebacks were made, but the model was delivered up to 1969. So, all 105.003's from 65-69 have 1965 casebacks.
And 63's delivered in 1965 if I read this correctly: https://www.phillips.com/detail/OMEGA/CH080216/33
Weren't the serials non consecutive for models though? I.e not all the numbers in that range were speedys, some were deville, seamaster etc etc wasn't it just luck of the draw what movement serial was picked for what model/case?
Yes I guess so, because cal 321 were produced only around 40000 pieces in all omega models, so that mean from 1957 to1968 probably 69. Speedmaster were produced less than 40000 pieces.
would be very interesting to exact numbers but i think without support from omega this will stay just guessing
Right, which is why I was asking. I can't find any information anywhere other than the serial number ranges on the speedmaster101 web site.
Mwo says that about 127,500 Cal 321's were produced, and of those, an estimated 80,000 to 85,000 made their way into speedmasters.
The 105.003 with S/N 22089XXX was used by Eugene Cernan (the last man on the Moon). It was NASA Serial number 28, and he used it on Gemini mission 9 in 1966. It's currently in the museum at Bienne.
I've just sold mine. the number was 25.448.xxx and the archive shows the production date in January '68.
