Apologies for shocking pictures. After a little advise of what’s wrong and right about this watch. I think it’s 63 but hard to make out. The serial number is 24011***. Has too much originality gone to bother putting right??? Thanks in advance as always gentlemen.

Movement's too late for a -63 but could be in range for a -65. Finding a dial will be extremely difficult and extremely expensive

In past 3 months Ive seen probably 10 dials for sale in various conditions going from 600-4500, so the dials are out there.

my 105.003-65 has a 24.002.xxx Serial and was delivered in July 1966,
imo -65 should be correct (number wise)
    good luck !

Worse case scenario there’s £6000+ in parts then. The DON bezel is looking rather well imho too

Apologies I thought I’d added these pics. Definitely sounding and looking like 65.

6000 Maybe with don, wouldnt expect to get that much without proper dial and hands but market is fickle

You would need correct dial, hands and crown. For me, hunting for the correct parts is part of the fun.

Ye I think If price is right you can have potentially rare reference.

-65? Rare? Dial will definitely be tough. Say you get this for 6k, then drop 4-5k for dial, hands, crown. So a 10-11k Ed white that is not original.

On one hand, these aren't getting cheaper. On the other hand, the gap between good original ones and less good ones is widening.

Best of luck whatever you decide! And we expect more pics!

Very interesting ! How do you see if a cal. 321 is from 63 or 65 (or earlier and later too btw) ! THX

That's a terrible service dial too... At least some of them have AML and long indices, so the look is closer, even if still not right. This one is just ::puke:: for that watch.

Deffo in range for late 1966 105.003-65 but that has been serviced to hell. There is a dial on ebay right now but the seller is asking I think £4000 so good luck in making the sums work!
You establish the movement serial and check here:

    https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/

    and more importantly here:

    http://www.moonwatchonly.com

Or do what many do here and learn the nuances of the various models and identify them by sight!

It would be based on the serial number which is etched in the movement. You have to open the caseback to see this 8 digit serial number.

105.003-63 was only produced within a narrow range between 2052 1xxx and 2052 6xxx, making it more rare (rarer?) than the 105.003-65 which has serial numbers between 2282 7xxx and 2544 6xxx.

All the above information is from Speedmaster101.

Actually what puzzles me is why quite a few pieces of ed whites out there hv movements and casebacks from different years. Maybe produced in diff batches? It can happen for vintage rolexes...
