100lbs down so I did a thing…

I have pretty much every vice/problem one could have to deal with somehow I dodged the weight issue but I’m working with a few people who unfortunately suffer from the “morbid obesity” diagnoses. I’ve taken them to nutritionist and done all in my power externally to assist them but damn what a struggle it is for them and when they tell me how it impacts their self esteem it really hits me. So it’s a heck of a battle to fight and involves many behavioral and lifestyle changes I got a crash course in its complexity. If people are overweight and it doesn’t bother them that’s one thing, those who fight that battle is another.
It really irks me now when I hear people make comments about peoples weight. Shoot losing 100lbs is quite a goal and certainly worthy of a nice reward. I don’t particularly care for in the US how we use that BMI to determine obesity as it puts a lot of people in the overweight category who I don’t think necessarily belong there. That’s another story of course.
I just learned never to comment on peoples body type as we all have things we don’t like and my attractive coworker (female) who is a good friend asked me if I thought she was fat, I thought she was kidding as she is in great shape so I laughed it off saying “ya your fat” I could tell she was very upset. She later told me she was fat in high school and got teased often and it bothers her to this day. I think I felt bad for a week about that one but we all know many kids especially can be cruel.
So I leave it alone, who am I to judge but when people do ask for help I do what I can and damn what a battle to fight. Congrats on your weight loss and well deserved beautiful watch.

Congratulations! That is absolutely an achievement worthy of commemoration, and that watch is a great way to celebrate.

Practically everyone I know is 15-20+ pounds heavier after 2+ years of Covid, including me.

I was guilty!

Thankfully I've taken off 20 pounds since January.

I struggled with weight issues up until about 10th grade and got picked on quite a bit for it. I ended up losing a pretty significant amount but nowhere near 100lbs. I commend you for it as I know how much discipline and pain it takes to endure a process like that. To somewhat maintain my weight or go through small weight loss periods I like to use IIFYM (If it fits your macros) philosophy. It has been the diet that is easiest to adhere to and understanding the concepts of weight loss or muscle gaining is empowering. I have since helped others lose weight using that same philosophy as well.

I quit drinking about 2 months ago thinking that cutting the sugar out would help with the weight loss and make me feel “better”. In all honesty- I haven’t noticed any difference other than less acid reflux at night- which is a good thing I guess. Thought I would miss it but really only do when I’m being social.
The sugars in the alcohol are a thing, but the larger “thing” is that you are taxing your liver with metabolizing alcohol instead of fat and carbohydrates. So you are both adding a calorie-rich substance to the system while diminishing the systems ability to process the fats we are trying to lose; both ingested and stored.

Thank you all for the inspiration- just got back from a brisk 2 mile walk.

A far cry from the 25 miles a week I used to run a decade ago, but it’s a start.

Congratulations.

100 lbs is HUGE. What a great way to celebrate.

I lost a good amount too, so much my wrists got smaller and my larger watches looked silly on my wrist. I was able to sell one of the two large watches.

I've heard it referred to as 'putting on the covid nineteen,' kind of like the freshman fifteen 😜 And I have definitely done so too through stress and sitting at home!

I did this too - I didn't actively quit drinking, just haven't been much in the mood over this winter (I'm more of a social and good-time drinker, not a bad-time drinker) and haven't noticed a damn thing, not even a reduction in acid reflux 🤬
Bodes well for the 9 bottles of whiskey I'm about to receive I suppose, though

Yeah, mine wasn’t a “quit drinking” perse, just an experiment to see how i would feel. I like my beverages for the taste- not the buzz. In fact I never can get past 2 as the reflux hits- I guess a natural governor that keeps me from getting drunk.
But, mix that second one with an Ambien and we get the buying under the influence thread.

Same here, I've just built up enough of a tolerance over the years to be able to do a fairly thorough tour of most cocktail bars' menus.

I also just take an antacid the afternoon before any anticipated drinks, then another before bed. Usually helps, not always though

Congratulations on both. I know the struggle. I’m about 25-30 over again where I was 3 years ago. I was at a point where I was cycling 2-3 times a week and some other exercise every day. Then a really bad flu followed by (probably) the ‘Rona hitting me and throwing me off balance. Lockdown and resulting tremendous issues at work didn’t help.
Now I’m back at it. Going for a ride later today.
Oh, and as per what others have said: the easiest calorie intake to lose was alcohol. Cut it out altogether about 5 years ago or so and never looked back. As much as I enjoyed a nice glass of wine or two and some craft beers, I don’t miss a thing and feel overall better.

Keep up the routine is all I can say. Great choice with the watch. Those are fantastic looking dials.

commonly known as a carnivore or lion diet. It seems bizarre but I feel like I am 20 again. Very strange. Its so counter to everything you are told but if you are messed up and nothing else works you should look into it. Its an extremely powerful lever to pull for quite a few things.

Afaik, those diets are considered as not-so-necessary-healthy if followed in the long term. Do you mind sharing what is your plan after year-1?

Massive congrats on your 300Pro and weight loss! 👍

Sure. Long term I am going to stay on it. I have need to stay on an anti inflammatory diet long term. I had to have a colon resection 3 years ago due to diveriticular complications. Unfortunately most plants cause a pretty bad reaction in me. I think there are still quite a few misconceptions regarding a carnivore type diet. Cholesterol, etc. I think Paul Saladino has a pretty even approach currently. “Carnivore-ish” … it really has helped me and apparently thousands of others when nothing else works. Not advising anyone to do it but if nothing else helps ….

It is very much an individual science experiment- there is no one diet fits all. I went paleo for about 5 years (and it was fairly sustainable) and was surprised that despite the food pyramid I learned growing up being upside down, I had better blood work than I had ever had in my life -cholesterol at 127 down from 300, BP of 110/70, resting heart rate 60bpm.

Very much so. My BP got better almost immediately due to inflammation abatement and my cholesterol is arguably way better despite a slightly elevated LDL which arguably means nothing taken alone. See the new cholesterol studies that were released these past few months. Even the AMA revised their guidelines on cholesterol. I think moving to whole foods and getting away from sugar and processed junk will help almost everyone. Also eliminating seed oils for sure.

Congrats!! i dropped 50lbs about 15 years ago and it was a huge feeling of accomplishment.
Unfortunately am up 45 over the past 2 years (and hadn’t kept my fat clothes-ugh) so I have to get cracking on getting it in check. I had to buy links for some of my watch bracelets. 🙁

Ugh - I lost 80lbs about 2 years ago, and as of now I'm back up 65. Sigh. Life long struggle of being overweight.
