I’d wager nobody is ever going to buy this anywhere near the asking. I don’t even know why anyone bought it for the hang tag price of $19k in the first place… maybe they got a steep discount. But oddly due to some mistake or quirk of branding, this is referred to as a “Speedmaster” on the papers in spite of it being a Louis Brandt collection complicated pocket watch. Very rare bird, rather attractive too, just not overly wanted by anyone willing to spend 5 figures. I’d be curious as to what the Calibre 972 movement is actually based on, whether its an integrated calendar or just some more regular pocket watch with a piggyback module attached like the the ETA based wristwatch perpetual calendars Omega produced.

Still an interesting watch… from afar.

Some more info here, Chuck Maddox of http://chronomaddox.com had emailed Omega asking about it and why this peculiar piece was labeled as such and they seemed to think it was a mistake of some sort, maybe its related to the fact that the Speeedmaster did in fact have a similar gold perpetual calendar, and they re-used some of the instructions and marketing materials due to it being such low production?

The movement is (at least superficially) similar to a movement used by Juvenia for decades. Though there are differences.

That 'Speedmaster' is a weird bird. The layout of the calendar is very odd, most open face pocket watch perpetual calendars have the month dial at 12 o'clock, and if the movement was meant for a hunter cased watch it would put the months at 12 o'clock but then the moon would be at 9 o'clock, just odd. I'm sure the perpetual calendar module was old pocket watch stock which they used to make 15 examples. Lots of drawers were coughing up old unused and incomplete movements which were often completed and used in contemporary production in the 80's and 90's. There would be little market to make a new perpetual calendar module for a 16''' pocket watch movement.

It's a very special piece. I don't think the price is disproportionate.

Google Translate does a pretty good job with Spanish. Writing in English will make it much easier for members to answer you.
