I'll just leave this here. From an old thread. Might save you some headaches.

Let me try. I've seen a couple of types on other forums.
    1. The guy who doesn't like a particular popular watch (let's say Speedmaster) and just can't keep from making snide remarks about the watch or its enthusiasts. Call this guy the "Why doesn't everyone agree with me, type." Or the "I'm too unique and special to like a watch that is popular, type."
    2. Related to no. 1. The guy who after seeing auction results or other sale results that are more than he can personally pay says, "That price was just too high. The bidders (all of them) must have been ignorant, stupid, or desperate and misguided. We can call this one the "market refuser/denier."

    3. The type who has read about watches until his eyeballs bleed in order that he might enter a forum and pontificate/blather on endlessly regarding his incredible watch expertise. (He has only owned a handful of RARE Seikos and Pulsar quartzes.) A side effect of his illness is driving away others from forums etc as the result of his pomposity and extreme need to have others think he is important, intelligent, and knowledgable. This type is RARE, but it takes only two or three of them to make many want to run, not walk, from a forum.

TBH the last part wasn’t needed, everyone just read it as our friend. :)

Oh not very rare at all, quite the opposite in fact. Fits nicely into the very common Dunning-Kruger effect. Expertise is illusory.

After 30 years R&D in a rather niche aerospace field I can confirm with certainty that I know nothing about almost everything and as for the rest it seems I was mostly wrong.

I was attempting to be diplomatic. It's not rare at all. But then again what is rare? Maybe some experts can address that question in another thread.

Oh, ya...my Colnago K.Zero TT bike has served me well...it got me our local [Cincinnati, OH] Cleves road time trial fixed gear course record [which still stands] in 2013...and it got me a 2nd place podium finish at the masters road time trial State Championships [Ohio] in 2015.

Not you, but the actual ladies. Thanks to @cicindela and mods for the amendment.

    So now bound to contribute:
I’m the studious type, quite passionate about style, design and history but conservative ie not a gambler, and not much of a seller either. Not drawn to luxury or exclusivity, and happy with a few humble nuggets. My motto is that watches are unimportant no matter what— many are stunningly beautiful but what’s more interesting for me is what they reveal about human history. I’m saddened by the levels of corruption and greed involved when a hobby becomes a big business.
