Strong price. But considering it's condition, rarity and what the watch is actually worth, it will be a great addition to a collector. One with deep pockets.
I'd rather own the American version of this box from Bulova: Just as rare and costs a lot less, too gatorcpa ...and yes, I have the watch.
Certainly a pride of Longines http://www.monochrome-watches.com/the-history-of-the-pilot-watch-part-four-longines-and-lindbergh/ The watch worth USD 3000-8000 in auctions. The box should worth no more than 10%-15% of it.
I believe you are grossly understating the value of this watch H. 3 different auctions. All well above $15k. One sold in June for $25k including buyer's premium. http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...ersize-silver-hour-angle-5517785-details.aspx http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19025/lot/205/ http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2013/watches-n09002/lot.207.pricehl.html
You are right G. I stand corrected. Sites that I googled dated back to 2007. Christies put estimate of the watch at CHF 3000-5000, but I did not get to see the closing price.
It may have been like this one, though in better condition: https://www.phillips.com/detail/longines/CH080116/223
You mean: ROMDS The first thing we've learned about old Omega boxes... a particular smell... It was called ROMDS = Red Omega Mars Dust Syndrome https://omegaforums.net/threads/how-to-stop-90s-omega-boxes-from-disintegrating.125547/
Thank you, I have seen that picture and couldn’t find anything else. That picture does not help a lot and I was hoping for more.
Hi Tony thank you for the effort, but it’s the small angle hour watch that you can fit in any box. I guess that if someone paid 2.4k€ in 2013 it was for a specific box not the generic one you can buy off eBay every day. Sorry for being frustrated but I spent hours searching. Longines boxes are a mess because Longines used old style fonts in recent boxes which make them look older than they are.
That box is a generic US box from the 1940’s or ‘50’s. I have one just like it and I think I paid under $20 for it. This ad shows the box in which the Hour Angle was sold: Larger version here: https://timeandnavigation.si.edu/mu...-and-lindbergh-hour-angle-watch-advertisement Hope this helps, gatorcpa
To be clear, I am trying to identify the original box for the big Lindbergh watch. I believe they don’t have it in the Longines museum.
