    All,

Over time, there must have been many threads about Transitional Speedmasters. Having both a true Transitional 145.022-68 and a late 145.012-67 at hand, I still couldn’t resist making a little test out of this based on a short video.

Question to you: which one is which?

    Enjoy!

The left one is the -012. As far as I can see it’s running with a slower frequency (321 movement)

The one that hits the marks is the 321. The one that misses all except the full second tick is the 861. They really made a booboo when they went to 6 ticks per second but kept 4 intermediate sub-markers.

Clearly, we’ve got some true experts here. Spot on, both @Ville_W and @padders!

In slow motion, the different best frequencies and corresponding step differences are clearly visible with something as common as an iPhone camera.

Even though this obviously wasn’t too difficult a challenge to guess, I hope this little clip can still help others understand the visible difference between a 321 and a 861 movement.

i heard ted williams could read the label on a spinning record... i bet he'd have been able to spot the difference w/out slo-mo.

    thanks for the tutorial

For some strange reason, I prefer the look of the dials with 4 subdivisions per second than 3...

Really? Without the help of slowmotion, the difference is barely visible. Sarcasm, perhaps? ;)

Just stating a fact, not exactly sarcasm since it is how it is but I agree you can’t really see the effect from those clips so perhaps I cheated a little!
