I acquired a 1991 Speedie and noticed a strange “clicking” sound when gently tapping on the center of the hesalite crystal (it doesn’t seem to emanate from the bracelet).

I would like to know if this is to be expected.

Thank your for your help.

When you tap with your nail, or the fleshy part of your finger?

Fleshy part

My guess is that there is nothing wrong. For piece of mind you could have it pressure tested. If it passes the pressure test and is otherwise functioning well I would not worry at all.

thank you, I’ll do that (I assume I can get it tested at the official Omega store in my city?)

Since it is a 1991 and out of warranty, it would be more cost effective to take it to an independent reputable watchmaker. You can find recommendations for your city by using Google's site search. Something like this:

If the watch has not been serviced in that last 5 years, you should probably just do that. A pressure test will be included. Expect to pay something like $800usd, but it varies a lot depending on your location.

Thank you all for your valuable comments. Yes I have two options, a trusted watchmaker or the Omega Service for about 900 CHF.

Back to the tapping sound: the hesalite doesn’t have the Omega logo etched underneath it.

1) has Omega made hesalite crystals around 1991/1992

2) if the hesalite is a remplacement: could it be that it doesn’t fit properly, hence the sound?

Thank you for your help.

Everyone one is guessing. Your best bet is to take it to a watchmaker. Hesalite does make quite a specific sound when tapped anyway. It could be that, could be the crystals loose, could be the dials loose. Could be nothing.

Yes to both questions. If your crystal does not have the etched logo, it is a generic replacement, not from Omega. But that doesn’t automatically mean it is not fit properly. Based others have said, you need a watchmaker to sort this out and test if the crystal is seated properly.
