Ever since I saw the 145.012-67SP at Philips I've become increasingly more interested in pre-professional racing dial watches.

I've read through a couple of threads with posts from @doctor steel and I was wondering if anyone had any more recent photos that they could post.
Also, in terms of the rarity Philipps wrote in their auction catalogue that there are only 10 examples known to the market. Does that mean that there are at least 10 examples that have been traded publicly? If so, does anyone have an idea where one showed up at auction/online?
On Speedmaster 101 it says that there is thought to be around 50 examples produced(which I understand is different from examples known to the market). Does this number include racing dial variations or does it apply strictly to one kind?
I have only been able to find a few pre professional racing dial photos. One was on the start-stop-reset catalogue, and the others were in this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/speedmaster-145012-67-racing-dial.24756/ and the ultimate Speedmaster exhibition. I have attached the photo from the exhibition below.
The photo below is not mine, I got it from: http://www.db1983.com/the-ultimate-speedmaster-exhibition

I understand that it is a rare piece but if anyone has any information/photos they would like to share please post!
@Spacefruit you have to have something to say about this right?

This last question might be pretty stupid but does anybody know the reason Omega made so many different variations?
Some of the dials are identical except for small differences, like applied logo vs printed, straight chrono seconds vs spear, or orange vs red hands.

I think Kringkily sold the 145.022 variety racing dial.

I'd bet there's some of the 145.012 references around these parts though..............

Here's one that walked into the store here looking for some TLC:

It was brought to me by the original owner's son. Son told me his dad bought it on honeymoon in Switzerland in 1968. He had NO idea how valuable and rare it is.

I just realized that this was the same photo from a thread I saw a couple months ago while I was doing some research. Are you still with european watch co? I go in there to look at the vintage watches lol.
It really is a gorgeous watch. Did the customer send you any photos after Al fixed it up?

    I'm still there, yes.

I recommended he take it to Archer or Nesbits under strict instructions of not changing any of the outside parts, and just doing a basic movement servicing. I've since reached out to him but haven't heard back. I hope it's still as is.

    Stunning!

Never noticed these have non-pro dials before.

Is it just me or is it strange that there seems to be much less of a following for these models considering the Speedmaster is such a collectible watch?
I mean I guess I didn't even know they existed until about a month before I heard one was being sold at the start-stop-rest auction. Would be really interested to see more come up for auction.

There's a big following if you can find them, but its like the CK2915, finding one is half the battle as a result they're underrepresented, they're definitely what you could classify as rare, not just dealer pretend rare like a 105.003 or 105.012

Out of necessity, I would consider parting with my 2998 and my CB to have a shot at one of those. That is how rare they are. Crazy stuff.

Al, you're a lucky man! Can you pass on a note to the guy that owns it? Just say "Chicagofrog calls dibs". He'll know what it means. ;)

I talked to a collector this morning who said he had been talking to 12 high profile dealers (like Paul Dugan etc.) about finding one for him and almost all of them told him it wasn't even worth it for them to look.
Apperently one of them told him where one was for sale but it's on the other side of the world...

If you saw how much work I am putting into this one, not sure you would say I'm really lucky! It was quite a mess - could have done 4 or 5 Speedmasters in the time I'll spend on this. Owner is getting a bargain in terms of the labour time on this one!

Oh, and if he wasn't selling to our dealer friend, I doubt he's going to sell it to you either, or me for that matter...
