What would you buy to mark a special occasion?

A little more than 9 months ago my beautiful daughter was born. She's our first child and my wife suggested I mark the occasion with a watch. She's kept us pretty busy as you can imagine and I haven't had time to decide on what would be the right piece.

    So....any suggestions?

Little girl? Hmm... better skip the watch. Start saving for the wedding now.

I think we've seen how this ends: What would you do?

Better yet, ask Dennis what he has available ;)

And the clothes, shoes, vacations, vehicles, university education, etc., that inevitably will be requested...
My darling daughter will be 19 this fall, and we have had to deal with all of this...
But I agree with your wife, a watch will be a great piece for you to mark the occasion. Expect that she will want to wear it in the future as well...

Yes. A variation, I was going suggest your wife pick out a watch for herself and give it to your daughter on her 18th birthday.

Amend that to 25 when she's more responsible and wouldn't lose it at a frat party. ;)

Clearly I need to learn how to reply to a part of another poster's comment. :)

Skip the watch and buy a gun.... she'll want to date in only about 15 years and if you're sitting on the couch cleaning a nice .303 when the boy comes to pick her up he might think twice.

you could not have made this question more unfair. no price range, no preferences. so i guess ill tell you what watch i would want to get. this is subjective

I didn't specify anything on purpose. I wanted to see what you'd all suggest without any restrictions. That being said, I'll probably keep it to $2,500 or less. I have a Speedy Pro and a Memomatic. I'm thinking about adding a Flightmaster at some point. I generally gravitate towards sportier / pilot style watches, 37mm to 42mm. But...there are so many fantastic watches out there and you guys have been doing this a lot longer than me, hence being open to suggestions.

A Ranchero, Railmaster or Seamaster with the Ranchero dial are fantastic looking. I love the broad arrows. I saw on the Omega website that they've got a Seamaster 300 which looks amazing coming out in the fall, though that's probably not in the budget at the moment.

I appreciate all the feedback so far. As for buying a gun for when she starts dating, I figure I will buy a watch now and can always sell it to buy a gun if necessary. :)

She IS pretty amazing, considering she has no interest in watches herself. I keep trying. Probably for the best, I'm not sure I could afford the habit for both of us.

That's a fun looking watch. I like the inclusion of everything but the 12, 3, 6 and 9.
