Hey guys.. somewhat new to this, I'm trying to find the best books for watch references. My Universal Geneve book by Sala came in the mail today (I'm very excited to dig into it!) and I'm looking for others that are comparable to it. Does anyone have any recommended watch collectors/reference books that show in depth details on the watches from that company? If possible something on Heuer would be awesome, but if you have any suggestions for other watch companies or books in general so that I can learn more, please post them here! Thanks and cheers, Brandon
AJTT for general Omegas, if you would like to concentrate on Speedmaster, the Moon Only Book is best... I have: The Best of Time Rolex Wristwatches: An Unauthorized History, as the title says for Rolexes...
Awesome man! Thanks for the suggestions. I really want to get the AJTT book but its so expensive!! The Rolex book also is now on my wish-list. Thanks for sharing.
This is an excellent reference if you are interested in chronometers: http://www.amazon.com/Wristwatch-Chronometers-Mechanical-Precision-Collectors/dp/0764303759
+1. Any book with a Zenith Captain Turtle Deluxe on the cover is all right by me. Von Osterhausen's book on Movado is also worth reading.
I was reading Moonwatch only in the omega boutique in Paris today. Amazing book, makes me wish i could go back in time to 1989 to get a 20th aniv speedy and then to 1995 to get the apollo 13 limited edition I walked past a rolex shop on my way back, watches were certainly better in the past, the new shiny ceramic sub is just horrible.
For vintage omegas: omegaforums.net - has an extensive list of contributors and an attentive editorial staff and updated in real time. And it is free to access.
Good site, I'd recommend it too. One thing I learned from Moonwatch Only, which really is the gold standard for watch reference books, is that all the depth and detail that it contains in 498 pages concerns strictly one small subfamily of one family of Omega sports watch. If we wanted to cover everything from the Constellation to the Polaris to the Geneve Dynamic to the pre-30mm models to Greg & Anthony's level of detail you wouldn't have a book shelf, you'd have a library. AJTT for all its size and depth really is just a family photo album where most relatives get to make an appearance.
Good points made. I appreciate the thought here. So really the idea is to find a book that focuses on a specific set or type of watch that you're interested in. And of course visit omegaforums.net
If you are located in the USA i have both the AJTT and the Moonwatch book available for purchase, and come highly recommended. Please be aware only 5000 copies in English of the AJTT were published and finding one is very hard - i have 6 available, all brand new. D
Hi darren, I'm not in us, but would like Mwo, anyway the most excellent dudes on OF can help a poor English soul out? Regards Ian
Ian, I can save you one and bring it back maybe next time I travel to the UK which would be June would that work?
Do you know "100 Superlative Rolex Watches"? It is one of the most beautiful watch books I know. 260 pages full with iconic Rolex references. I did the translation for the German version and have got some examples as a kind of "partly payment" for my work. If somebody is interested in an English version I have still 2 copies left. Just send me a PM.
Any of the Goldberger books are very visually satisfying, and I understand there is a new Longines volume in the making.
I just bought 5 older Watch Reference Books from a long time collector They are loaded with color pictures and history of the various watch companies They are large, heavy, hard cover coffee table books and look cool on a table or could be used for reference I have put the Omega book up for sale on the Watch Parts and Accessories section of this forum I would sell any of these-please message me for pictures, details, etc -Universite of Omega Staff Training Book 2012 -Cartier The Tank Watch by F Cologni 1998 -Wristwatches by Konemann 1999 in German English and French -The Classic Watch by M Balfour (no dust jacket)-white ring from a glass on cover 1989 -American Wristwatches by Faber + Unger 1988
