First and foremost, thanks to the mods for a dispensation regarding the 200 post rule so I can offer this watch, and thanks to OF for the space. Up for sale is a cool little time only Wittnauer, which I (once again) had originally hoped to have serviced and wear, but it has been sitting around for well over a year now and it's time to find it a new home. Unfortunately there seems to be limited information available on vintage Wittnauers, from an archival/reference standpoint at least. I once inquired directly to Wittnauer about a different watch I was researching and received the following response: "I’m unable to provide you with information about a vintage Wittnauer timepiece. The Bulova Watch Company purchased the Wittnauer brand in 2001. At that time we received only a hand full of catalogs of their more current quartz model watches. We have no information pertaining to a model like your timepiece to help identify it or even to date the model. We are extremely sorry." A rather sad story! But what I can tell you is this - the watch features a stainless steel screwback case that measures 33mm in diameter excluding the crown, and an unusual applied index dial, with a sunburst tapestry pattern that has a pleasing, even patina throughout. Movement is a 17J automatic, which is currently running, although service history is unknown. Hand lume has darkened, and there is some lume drop in the hour hand adjacent to the center post. The case looks to have been polished in the past based on the positions of the lug holes, and the crown may well be a replacement. All that said, it still has a certain charm to it, IMHO. For this watch I am asking $225 shipped within CONUS (preferred). Local pick-up also welcome in the NYC area. I may ship internationally on a case by case basis, and at the buyer's cost. Accepted payment methods are wire transfer and Paypal (buyer covers fees). I can provide references relating to purchases from and sales to fellow OF members on request. Returns only accepted if the watch has been grossly misrepresented. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks for looking!
It has a sei tacche case back and a guilloche dial with art deco numerals and radium lume plots! Lug holes too! Why isn't there more hyperbole in this advert?!? Good-looking watch - best of luck with your sale
