Hi There oh Wise ones, Newbie here looking to purchase his first Omega.

Could anyone out there recognise if this a genuine or a fake seamaster? Also, is there a guide to determining a fake?

    Thanks All.

    Pretty genuine.
    Pretty tired movement.
    Pretty new crown.
    Pretty worn case.
Probably a re-paint of the dial.

I'd pas, there are better unless you can snag this for less than $150 USD.

    But then, why bother.

Sorry, I just noticed you are new here and may not appreciate our casual way of doing things.

It's not a very attractive watch.

I'd like a second opinion on the dial, something rings a bell about grey dials with pink Ω symbols.

Could it be very aged and original?

    Thanks for the response Jim.

When you say "pretty" genuine, is that referring to the new crown and possible repaint?

I should add the blurb that goes with it...

    Automatic Self-winding movement Caliber 552 24 jewels
    37mm case w/ crown
    Lovely grey dial
    Genuine leather band

If that watch were a horse it'd be on its way to the glue factory, just because its a vintage watch doesn't mean it has to look worn out, that thing has had a very hard life

That's not patina in my book, it's knackered. There is a great deal of difference between a watch aging gracefully and one which has just been used and abused. The condition of the movement tells you a great deal about the previous owners in this example. There are loads more far nicer Omegas out there, go find one ;)

    Hey All,

Thanks for the advice, I have not bought it yet, the chap is asking for $500 aud Negotiable which Considering Jim's earlier valuation, is too steep.

Keep your $500 in your pocket this time around, if you add a bit to that you can score a nice Calibre 752 Seamaster 36mm or 55x series in good shape, even $500 will do far better than this thing, I wouldn't pay a third of that for it.

The thin gold plated layer has worn to the base metal at many places (buy a gold capped version)
    Hands look a bit short.
