I just found another one: http://longines30l.com/longserie/13184201.htm And another: http://www.tradera.com/item/190117/199272580/longines-sport-chief This may be one of those instances where "Sport Chief" was used only in one country or region at that time. A little like the Omega Suveran or Seamaster DeVille. gatorcpa
Maybe Messrs. Hausammann is the common denominator here. It would be interesting to find out if all of the nordic 701/"sport chiefs" had been imported through them.
Mr Hausammann was the Norwegian importer. In Sweden it was Mr. Terrasse, Mr. Thulin and Mr. Urania (uncertain if Urania is a person or a company). Some of the Swedish guys seems to be importing at the same time The 701 I have heard had a problem with the date changing mechanism, and was not very popular.
You guys are probably on to something. It would make a lot of sense seeing how the case, caliber, and fonts are all the same from that same region.
Hi there, just curious if my Sport Chief is the real deal and if so where I might obtain a Crown from this time...?
Just to resurrect this and add to the discussion, here is the extract for my Sport Cheif, only 39 serial numbers from the OPs watch: We thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Longines watches. Further to your request, we are pleased to provide the information contained in Longines' registers. Originally, the serial number 13'183'575 identifies a wristwatch in stainless steel bearing the reference 7632. It is fitted with a manually wound mechanical movement, caliber 701 and was invoiced on 17 June 1966 to the company Hausammann, which was at that time our agent for Norway and Sweden.
Just to revive the thread again after almost 6 years. I have a similar Sport Chief with a 701 movement bought in 1966 in Norway. This was a pleasant rabbi-thole to go down when trying to find some info on this one.
