    For future reference, one should always be skeptical when the hands show significantly more deterioration than the dial. There should be reasonable consistency.

    The whole tone of the seller's description should make you want to run a mile. All black dial Omegas need very careful appraisal because so many are not merely redialled, but re-finished black when they were silver to begin with. As Tony says, the hands are a complete give away.

    Thanks, chaps, you confirm what I suspected. But the guy is so adamant that it's the real thing that it made me doubt my instinct... and ignore a classic case of dancing around the truth. He doesn't actually say it's an original dial, just that it's in great condition. Snake.

    Yep......usually the original condition is at same age or hands newer than dial. Most people change the hands first before the dial.
