I found an old Moon case, a half destroyed MkII and cleaned everything. Then a bezel from ebay for £4. The finishing touch came the other day when I bought a nice speedmaster with this strange (to me) bracelet. Those who notice my increased posts, it is because I have a brief few days in the same place as my watches. A few hours and I'm back to USA. It was a relatively simple job for an amateur like me. Entire cost was $1575...er then the mainspring broke and it was off to the friendly boys in Essex for the usual $600 (equiv) service.

Very nice looking and unique speedmaster. Not factory but pleasing to the eye all the same. I prefer the look of the 105.012 case to the MK11 case but love that racing dial. I saw a similar straight lugged speedmaster here> http://omega.watchprosite.com/show-...438/s-0/t-omega-omega-speedmaster-series-112/ I love playing around with parts like this, it makes the hobby very enjoyable. Is the jubilee type bracelet original Omega? Thanks Mick
Hi Mick I'm 99.9% sure this will be a genuine Omega BCT....I've previously seen this style on a number of South American sourced Omega's. Best - Neil
My version of the same .......... this is a MKII dial but the previous owner of the dial tried to remove the Mark II from the dial The nice thing about the normal Speedmaster case is the dial is much closer to the crystal and shows off the dial better, the MKII looks quite deep set by comparison
Ha! no feelings were hurt ..... And I had just got off a plane and your point is valid and deserves expansion - my short response was, on reflection, not one I would like to be the last on the subject. the "Japanese Speedmaster Book" shows a thumbnail picture of a similar assembly and I thought it looked good. It was also claimed to be a contemporary, if unoriginal modification. I have also seen reference to the micheal e straight lug modification. i acquired a very cheap empty moonwatch case, with no bezel. i then searched for about a year for a dead mk11. My goal was simple, to buy a MKII that had an over polished case, one that if I restored wouldn't be attractive. it also had the advantage of being able to buy the donor at the right price. the recently added bracelet, is marked Omega and came in a speedmaster from S. America so fits with what has been said so far. my starting point for this project were items I would not have otherwise built up. "You can't hod rod a good bike" was the maxim I learned at school.
I asked because I had this thread in mind: http://omegaforums.net/threads/speedmaster-mark-ii-case-refinishing.9970/ Adam/ Photo500 does an incredible job in refinishing Speedy Mk2 cases. If it had been my donor, I think I would have chosen that road.
Yes I saw this too. this case has not enough metal. I think it was refinished by a black smith on an angle grinder! it did come from Ukraine, home of fyne watchmakkers
