The seller has a few that I'm interested in, and he knows I'm close. Should I add this one to my new, growing collection? All original? No sniping please! I'll let you know if I pass on it! http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-vintage-longines-jumbo-gold-plated-cal-12-68z-1107010.html Thanks for any help...
I'm still wondering about this one... can anyone with Longines knowledge comment? If the watch isn't all that (the plating is badly worn at the lugs), me thinks the strap is worth something...
I don't see anything spectacular that would make it a must-have watch. Not even sure if the dial is original.
Thanks, Dennis. I'll keep looking around for a nice no-date SS Longines with gold furniture... those be my prefs, FWIW!
I would keep an eye out in the 30L family, you can find just what you are looking for with a world class movement to boot. Wayne
Thank you, Wayne, I will have to do that. I just finished reading up on that movement, and like you say, it is very well regarded, and a manual wind would be just perfect, too.
I just love the 30L and believe it is IMHO the finest manual wind made, most definitely in the top 3. I am sure Dennis would agree! Matched with the simple, elegant case it is timeless. Longines! Wayne
Shall I look for any particular Longines model in order to find a 30L? Or shall I purely rely on a picture of the movement that matches the 30 L? The reason I ask, is that when I searched for a Longines 30L on Recon, nothing came up. I suppose I would have better luck on eBay..
No doubt. Just got 30 'results' from that one, but probably only 3 were what seem to be 'Real McCoy's'... so, I think I'll add another thread asking about two that might be worth considering....
Correct!! Got to have patience and a good eye. Only go for the best!!! Hint... Ebay Italy is a good place to look also. They do not show on ebay u.s. most of the time. Use the Google translate if you don't speak Italian.
Just started another thread asking about the two from Uruguay... I'm guessing (hoping?) I will get some interesting responses!
I am looking for another myself but here is my last that Event Horizon has now. He loves it!!! Would have fit your bill!!
That is a sweet one, Wayne! As for the original post, if someone wants that watch, I am no longer interested... it's a 30L for me, baby; Aloha!
I certainly do - just don't downplay the 23Z either. In regards to South America, there are TONS of locally made cases with Longines dials & movements installed. It's a VERY tricky region so don't go it alone without lots of veteran help. I plucked my date-at-12 Flagship with original buckle & strap from there, and LouS has snagged a sweet Longines or two also. Lots of sellers with a cavalier attitude towards the definition of the word "original".
Ok, great. I definitely feel I have some ideas to work with. Thanks, guys, so the 30L and 23Z handwind are the better movements... Dennis, is it a cal. 291 in your date-at-12? A pretty decent auto, I suppose?
The caliber 291 powers my Conquest date-at-12. The caliber 341 is housed in the Flagship date-at-12. While the 341 is a very nice movement, it's not exactly the same engineering as the 291. I'd call it passed 'pretty decent' - it's my favorite automatic of the era and probably one of the top 10 of all time.
