Why does that not surprise me? :p

Have you ever noticed that with certain brands there are always the same usual suspects nabbing the primo pieces?

Unless I'm mistaken, the hands are replacements. The second hand should be blue and the other hands should be all white/lume.

Yes, and the blue chrono second hand should have a white tip. This one is, um, unique.

Anyone of you fellers actually have one of these Pilot-Diver-Everything watches? I'm interested in a wristshot - they seem massive

Been looking for one of them for a while. Fondled one at Aaron Faber about a year ago. It was not as massive feeling as I would have expected. Although it was on the large size, it was not as massive as modern chronos like the Breitling B-01 Chronomat, or Planet Ocean.

Boy, several anomalies there. First, I think that's a wholesale redial. It ought to have Swiss or Swiss Made at this point. A block capital automatic is not unheard of, but its unusual - most are script. Then there is the caseback, which I agree ought to belong on a Captain. Then there is the movement...

    Compare it
    [IMG]

    to a more usual 133.8
    [IMG]

Note the difference in markings, and even the width of the cotes de geneve. That I've never seen. By serial number, it could be very very early in the movement run. I'll leave this piece for someone else.

Oh, and the box is sure as heck not original. It's about 18 or 19 years too young.

Couple of new ones to consider...

We have a Zenith 2000 with Cal. 135. Not the most collectable of the watches to house the iconic movement, but a chance to own Cal. 135. Price seems little high to me, but that's not really my market. My only question is with the dial. The Zenith 2000 in my Nov. 1966 catalog has a stylized '12' rather than a simple marker, but I imagine this is just an different model:

The other is from one of Zenith's many one-off model lines...a gold Zenith "Victorious" with Cal. 40 (looks more like a 40-T to me). Other than some oxidation on the dial, the rest looks good (but others should point out flaws if they see them). A SS version with a Cal 40-T sold for $430 recently to give you a data point:

I think this one is quite correct, excepting the box and papers, strap and buckle which are bunk. I agree with you that the 12 marker is not a deal breaker and probably represents just a different model. The only thing wrong with it is the freaking price.::screwloose:: Especially considering the Zenith 2000s got the third build of the 135, inferiorly finished compared to the other two according to Roessler. I got my equally correct cal 135 18K Port Royal for a grand less. This one has been lapping eBay for the past month or two - if he doesn't come down on the ask a lot, it will continue to.

Good find - I sorta like this one, although price is a little toppy as well. Isn't it interesting that a Zenith with a Martel model name should have a Zenith rather than a Martel originated movement?

For those of you not steeped in Zenith arcana, Zenith bought Martel in 1960. Martel was Universal Geneve's movement manufacturer, and its acquisition brought Zenith a whole range of new movements including a line of rotor automatics, with which it replaced virtually its entire previous catalog, so that when you buy a post-1960s Zenith, you are effectively buying a Martel. One would expect this watch to be post-Martel acquisition since it carries a Martel model name, but the 40T is a classic Zenith movement.

FWIW, I'll vouch for this seller. I will also note that the Zenith bands he sells his watches on are an especially nasty plastic.
