Nice one ......... my favorite speedy. Correct S/N range, but incorrect bracelet. Supposed to be 1171.

I was aware of the Straight text, commemorative caseback 145.022.
I was not aware of the SS 145.022 straight text WITH Apollo XI engraving.
What is the serial range you speak of? How many are out there?
This engraving is the same as the 145.022BA Gold version, correct?

This the first SS version of this text that I've seen in market. I've read about it in AJTT page 676-677 on this SS caseback.
Certainly the one with Apollo XI engraving is more uncommon than the usual straight text without Apollo XI. They are found in low to mid 31XXX XXX s/n. I don't know how many were produced.

The thought of spending 1k on an old box like that leaves me feeling queasy, maybe I´m just not ready enough for this collecting game!

Doubtful "an original box" would add that much value. "The original box" a different story perhaps. This one will never be the latter, although no doubt it could be misrepresented as such by a less than scrupulous seller.

Lots of times much of the value added by the inclusion of the original box has to do with the great condition of the watch - if the owner took the trouble to keep the box more often than not that same owner has taken very good care of the watch.

Agree with you there, my point was that the box being discussed will never be the original box, authentic though it may be.

Seems like a reasonable price for someone in the EU, considering the waffle dial, blued second hand, solid 14k case showing the golden squirrel of distraction and box. If I wanted a new gold dress watch, I'd be all over it like a rash...
