No, I can't afford watches now. Just a few bottles of wine and maybe some beer. 1 watch = 2 cases of Huet.

 

Current top bidder has zero feedback, and has bid only on this watch - four times.

It could be legit I suppose.

I'm the high bidder at $560 for my birth year watch, 1962. But I'm not sure how high I should go in case the ZERO feedback bidder turns out to be a shill. It's a late 1962 serial number (19,990,XXX) with a 1961 case back, so I'm comfortable that it didn't roll over into 1963.

Is this a case where I appeal to the seller's better side about the ZERO feedback buyer, and let him know I was scammed by a shill in my last auction?

 

You could try, whether it would be effective is another matter. I usually just offer him amount what I would buy the watch for several days before closing time. If he agreed he will take my offer and stop the auction. It will save him 10%+ in eBay fee.
...and remember there are snipers out there on top of his shill bid (which usually seller put as 'reserve') at the last seconds of bidding.

 

I notice that the zero feedback bidder last bid on 6/23/14 and his original maximum bid didn't automatically beat mine. Hopefully I have found my birth year watch.

EDIT - Okay, saw the last post here. My problem is I don't even know what this watch is worth, so I don't know how high a sniper bid might go.

 

That's not what I wanted to hear.

There's a lot of 1962 Seamasters that are buy now for $700-$850 that I thought should be $500-600. There a couple of Omegas in solid gold that I've thought I'd pay $800 or more but they are going for $1200-$1400. I think I must be a cheapskate, or I'm still stuck on the prices they went for 7-10 years ago when I last looked...

 

And if you do try, meaning "You could try, whether it would be effective is another matter." please, do let us know (good eBay sellers seem rare)?

 

Now I've been outbid by a new bidder whose feedback is "private", which I seem to recall is what people with negative feedback can do, i.e. worse than zero feedback. I hate eBay.

EDIT - looking into the new bidder, it says they have good feedback, so why "private"? Also, in the last 30 days all their bids are in the past 3 hours with 5 different sellers, so maybe not a shill.
