Is there anyone who can give a definitive verdict on the dial on this one? There aren't a lot of photos online to compare with. The best I could find is below. The watch in the auction seems to have the markings in the exact same spacing but the dial doesn't have much age at all which is very rare for black dials of this period. Any advice is appreciated as I really like the look of this watch

Thanks for the advice Canberra. I see now, TDMP = Triple Date Moon Phase ;).

Think I might throw my hat in the ring then, so to speak!

Bezel is ok I think, the top left lug side looks quite rounded but I can't tell for sure. These are really cool watches for the money though!

    I defer to you, always.

The money for this watch like most watches is in the dial. And, the dial is in collector excellent condition on this watch. worst case scenario (sorry for the lame pun) you buy another watch with a clean case and a crappy dial and mangled hands and do a switcheroo.

sell the donor watch and enjoy your perfect chronometer sparkle dial whic will probably be worth some decent loot down the road.

That's my birth-year watch! Been looking for a '62 watch of some sort but reluctant to buy a bad re-dial or non-working watch, or one that absolutely needs a re-dial. Maybe any of you guys who're bidding would stop if you see me get in on this? :=D

EDIT - how common is it to have a watch advertised as a '62 but with '61 on the inside of the case-back, and is that a problem? Note - Serial number seems to fit a late '62-63 vintage.

EDIT - thinking I might still look for a '62 Seamaster or Submariner instead.

Its not a problem, it just depends when you consider the watch "of that year".

Is it when the case is made?
    when the movement is made?
    when the watch is assembled?
    when the watch is shipped?
    when the watch is bought?

Those 5 things can happen over a span of years

I hate going off-topic on the Recommended thread (maybe this discussion gets its own thread?) It might be interesting to see what most folks consider a birth-year watch. To me, it seems any watch purchased to commemorate en occasion is the appropriate watch. So if your 105.003-65 Speedy has a movement dating to 1966, was delivered from the factory in 1967 and sold in 1968, that's a 1968 birth-year watch. After all, wouldn't "Dad" say he bought that watch on the occasion of the birth of his child?
Of course, without documentation, who could say its a 1968? Maybe this is why folks go by the case or movement number?
