    Hi guys,
Not long ago, I bought an early Longines Calatrava in steel with a salmon dial/blue steel hands. Any thoughts from fellow passionate collectors? Thank you.

I'd call that style bauhaus before Calatrava.

True, but in person it looks more "calatrava-ish." Here's a pic of it next to my Seamaster. For reference.

Well, yes, and compared with a plastic Casio digital watch, it would really look "calatrava-ish". :p

On a serious note, Luke, it's a nice watch, and appears to be in good condition for its age. Post an image of the movement if and when you can.

Lovely watch! Love the Modernist-art deco hour markers.

I see a gradual progression in wristwatch design throughout the 20th century that parallels the trend in Western architecture.I think the 1920s marked a conscious decision to break from the classical tradition (breguet, roman numerals; leaf, cathedral hands; fancy lugs, etc), which leads to the minimalism, Mad-men era watches (stick markers, stick hours, slim lugs) like your Seamaster 30. Just like those lovely art deco buildings (think Miami beach buildings) that gave way to modernist corbusier styled minimal aesthetics (think UN Headquarters). Bauhaus seems to straddle the art-deco and minimalism styles.

By the way, that's a strap style I've been looking for a long time on your Longines. Would you share the source? Or is it custom made?

My 1940s Persian Longines says hi.

    Hi,
Thank you for your response and I love your Longines too--a beautiful piece! I regards to your strap question, I actually have a few I am looking to sell at a price slightly above wholesale. I have many different leathers, colors, stitching etc. here's a picture image.jpg

Good evening, I believe I have the same watch as you but I know very little about it (it has been passed down to me). I am new to Longines watches and I am looking to get some more information about the watch. Also I would be very interested in the straps as mine is very weathered. Many thanks, Oliver.

    @Luke Rottman
Luke hasn’t been seen since 2016.

So popping the case back off will have the model # on the caseback and cal# and serial# on the movement. (A watchmaker should do this if your not knowledgeable)

@Syrte might know what model just from looking

    Hi all,
Longines at that time didn’t name its models. It is indeed a Bauhaus style 1940s watch, I would suspect a 32-33mm housing a 12.68Z caliber.
We can further observe what the Italians call a « barrel case » and what @Vitezi says has also been called a « cylinder » case.

Thanks @STANDY for the endorsement, the Longines forum has many other followers who would have said just as much.

    Very flattered
To the OP- you do need a better strap indeed, and for that you need to measure the lug width in millimeters. I would suppose it’s a 15mm fixed lug which means it’s hard to find straps for it, however a 16mm perlon pull through might look good, and I can also send you a contact for an Italian strap maker who makes custom ordered straps for very reasonable prices and fast turn around. Below is one he made for me.

Edit/ add- a link to a previous discussion of 15mm fixed lug straps for Longines watches. The thread has since been moved to a general topic about straps.
