I picked up a 1972 Seamaster a couple of months ago that was in overall very good condition. It's a Chronometer version with the caliber 751 (168.034). I took it to my watchmaker for servicing and he discovered that the original movement ring had been replaced at some point by a piece of nylon cord. He's been getting slow and conflicting responses from Omega US and Omega Switzerland on what was originally used and if the part is available.

I've seen some mention online of a rubber, "floating" shock protection used in similar cases. Can anyone shed some light on this? It would be much appreciated.

All the ones I've had have had a metal retainer/spacer ring.

The movement with attached ring is held in place by a retainer spring which presses against a flange on the inside of the cased back.

The retainer part was missing, and there was a piece of cord used to keep the movement in place. My watchmaker chuckled at that. He would prefer the correct part. [emoji3]

I believe the correct part number is 079LC05500I.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I forwarded that part number on to my watchmaker.

Beside the ring, there are also 4 rubber bumpers to keep the movement from moving sideway like when you push and pull the crown. The case back ring only helps push the movement toward the crystal and cannot prevent it to move sideway. Those bumpers sell for about 6 quids a piece at Cousins.

Great information. Would you happen to have a part number?

Hi, is it possible to pick up on this thread please? I have a similar watch which is the non-chronometer version 166.065 and have been able to buy the x4 rubber 'buffers' but am still looking for the case back ring. I have tried a search on part number 079LC05500I without success - can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
