Good point. It's tough to beat the ETA's consistent performance.

ETA , especially the highest quality 2892 and its derivative, is a victim of its own success. It is so ubiquitous that people degrade it into something not really worth in higher end watch class.
So the problem is not its quality, but rather its exclusivity. Which shows how rational people are........

Quite insightful, regarding exclusivity. But then, hey, wouldn't Rolex have that problem?

Somehow Rolex could say that their movement is exclusive in house :). Forget that's a million production a year in house movement.

By the way this is what my Rolex vintage collector friend said about his 25K 1958 Submariner:
"The price reflects the dial and case condition. I could easily buy similar movement for $400-500 and nobody except few who check serial number will notice"

Your buddy is insightful...I mean, save for those of us on this forum, many of whom we'll never meet face to face and talk watches, how many are interested in the difference between a 861 or 1861 Speedy? Or the rare 321?

How many folks do you know own a Sub or Omega merely as a symbol of wealth or prosperity. Is the reason they bought their watch wrong? I say no although that's not my particular reason for liking watches.

I made my comment merely because I know how some feel about the movement...I do not hold similar feelings as I own three watches with some version of that caliber. However the discussion it provoked is much more interesting...although I think somewhat philosophical.

I think that's the difference between a "collector" and an "enthusiast". There's different priorities and nothing wrong with being either.

I certainly can't consider myself one, I own watches from 22 different makers, although a number of them are one-offs in my collection. I do concentrate in certain brands though.
