    Hey guys,

I've got a 145.022-68 transitional on my short list. I came to find this one. It doesn't have a DO90 bezel, so not for me, but I wanted to get some feedback on the other attributes..

Is this a good example? If it had the DO90 bezel, I think it woud be a go.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Any additional pictures available or movement number? Between the incorrect bezel and the color difference in the hands vs the dial something looks off when I look at the total package.

That said, the bezel would be acceptable to me but I've had a transitional Speedmaster with non-matching hands and it was all I noticed when I looked a the watch. Needless to say, it had to go.

I didn't go so far as to get movement shots as the bezel made it a no go for me.

    Here's another dial shot fwiw..

Looks a lovely colour of lume on the dial, I like it.
Hard to say mugh more without further info.
I've had 4 transitionals and most had lemon lume.

Agree. The dial appears to be in excellent condition to the naked eye. With a bit of effort a set of better matching tritium hands could be sourced leaving you with a nice looking watch as long as the rest of it checks out.

I've also been keeping an eye out for the '68 transitionals and originality of the hands seems to be the the most difficult part to determine authenticity (for me anyways). The other stuff is more obvious, but the hands can be so tough to determine, I've seen examples similar to the one shown that have gone either way.

Very true. Upon looking at it further I don't have enough expertise to determine if the hands are original to the watch. Like I said, between the bezel and the hands something looks off.

(correct or incorrect) When the hands are in question, I've been leaning towards them being replacements when I see a DNN bezel, assuming it was a service replacement as well.

Not all transitional Speedies have DO90 bezels, but this one is definitely a service bezel. The alternative DN90 bezel should have a dot next to 70 not below, font of Tachymetre should be bigger, and there should be no accent above the e. There is no evidence to suggest the hands are replacements at least from these pictures imo. The only way to truly verify it would be to see the watch firsthand and test the lume with a UV light. I've seen original hands that didn't match the lume of the dial, and I've also seen hands with matching color lume that were replacements - I'm speaking specifically about tritium dials/hands and this doesn't apply to radium dials/hands

I don't think its that uncommon for the hands to age slightly darker than the dial and given the condition of the dial, I'd say these hands were original.

Have to say I wouldn't accept a DNN bezel as original on a '68 though when they were used up to 29xxxxxxon '69's.

Hmm, good to know. AML only on '68s though, right?

Thats the whole thing about a '68. It looks like a 321 with AML, DoN but has the newly released 861.
