Just found this topic and i couldn't agree more about how underrated these exquisite Omega Chronographs are.

I am also afraid that i cannot hold myself from posting some photos of my much beloved specimens:

176.007 (just seven months older than me...)
176.001 (wedding present for my wife...), a reference which i strongly believe is Omega's first automatic chronograph

176.010 (a rare beauty of its own...)

Terrific pieces I have just discovered. Did anyone have seen recently some 176.007 or 176.001 trading recently ?
I understood the .007 reference is rare but what would be in what kind of space are talking about ? Unfortunately could not see a lot trading, neither the more classic 176.001...

    Thanks for your help

The 176.001 was produced for a relatively shorter period, before it was changed into the 176.007. The 176.007 had a longer run, so the 176.001 are actually a bit ore difficult to locate.

The 176.007 is not all that rare and at any given time there will be a few on eBAY. The key is to find the configuration you want and in decent condition. Check sold listings on eBAY to get a sense for what these trade at the bottom end.

So you would recommend to get a 176.001 if I hear well :)

What do you think of the 176.005 ? Too common ?

Nope. I did not make any recommendation, just mentioned some differences. Yous should go after the watch that appeals to you the most, IMO.

Here is a link to a thread the illustrates the differences between the watches:

Super interesting as usual, thank you very much for your help Joe, I will probably be looking for .007 rather than an 001. Or a Yachting one but I will probably won't have the funds ! Damn I love this forum ! Thanks again

This is mine. It was kind of a grail to me after seeing many on a different forum long long ago (JoeK. do you still remember, sir?). Then I found this on eBay in the US have it shipped over to Europe and sent to the Spa. I'm about to get it back soon and have to say I'm quite pleased with the result.

Just located one of these. Broken main sprint, pushers.

But hands and dial in good shape.

Any idea what a broken but repairable seamaster 176.007 from the 70s is worth?

Pics would help. Assuming it is the steel version I would start at about $1600 and subtract the cost of a service and parts.

I am working on the photos. The watchmaker quoted around $1300 to service and repair it. He wants around $2k serviced and repaired.

Backstory. The watch was dropped off at a local watchmaker. The owner doesn't want to invest $$ to repair. So watchmaker and owner are negotiating on purchase. Watchmaker showed it to me and asked if I would be interested.

So that's why the details are a little off. I'm going to drop in and take photos of the watchmaker and the owner reach a deal.

Hmmm. Ebay auction prices for these tends to run from 1900 to 1100 depending on condition from my observation. $2k is a typical "dealer price", which tend to be in the 2k-3k range. But at least you know that it is freshly serviced. In my opinion the biggest factors that contribute to the price of this model are:

Recent, documented service? (in this case, yes)
Condition/finish of the case (will the sunburst finish be redone as part of the service/repair?)
    Condition of the dial
Presence or absence of original 1170 bracelet

A nice case and dial, a bracelet, and recent service then $2k isn't a bad price, IMO.
