Can someone.help me with this watch please. I can't find the case number on the Omega database. It's 166.5020. I'll post some pics in a moment.

The numbers on the movement are 25214954 and 565.

It's confusing because the dial says Geneve but I can't find any reference anywhere to a seamaster geneve from this era!

What parts do I need to restore it and where could I get these from? Thankyou!

One way to go about it is to get a donor watch with a good case/dial but cacked movement, from eBay for example.

I know it's not the answer you are after, but I think you already have the donor, you just need item 1.

I think the cost of a proper restoration would be over-capitalising (it would cost more that the worth of the watch).

And as you have the movement, there's always the option of a Watchco SM300 kit

Use 166.0020 in the Omega Database. Sometimes the casemakers added a extra number, here it is 5. so the reference is 166.020 and when you serach in the database you have to add an extra 0.
It should bee a Seamaster Deville, i have never seen a Deville with an Genéve dial, sometime an ordinary Seamaster can have a Genéve dial or both Seamaster and Geneve is on the dial, but i have not seen it on a Seamaster Deville.

You'll need the movement serviced, new crystal, crown and stem. Do you have the complete case? It's not clear in your pictures but it looks like a front loading case.

On the subject of Watchco style SM300s, a friend is very taken with mine and has asked me to build him one. So, I sourced a clean 565 and it has this dial and hands. I have no idea if these are correct for your watch but they are surplus to my requirements and would be willing to sell them on to reduce his cost. Let me know if they are of interest and I will send some better pics.

    Cheers, Chris.

Thanks for your help! What should I be looking for in a donor watch? Year, style etc.to make.sure.the parts.fit? Does anyone have a pic of the parts.I.need? I can't work out.what the bezel should look.like and can't find one anywhere to buy so I think.my.only option n is to get a donor?

Is that an 18k case? I can never remember the case codes but for a 166.020 BA (someone will know what BA stands for) case, Cousins show the following. They list many case materials so there are lots of these documents. I am at home with a fever so, this is giving me something to do...

Chris, it looks like a 9k case with English hallmarks.

Thanks John. So, it's not BA. If that's a local case would it differ from the Omega parts catalogue?

The crystal is easy and cousinsuk.com have it for £18 plus VAT. The 42531 crown is there as well at £12 plus VAT. A 565 stem is under a tenner. Will have a look at the other codes but I suspect the bezel is unobtainium...

    Cheers, Chris

Well done, Sherlock. Yes the bezel will be the problem - and very expensive if you did find it. It is possible to have one made, but you will soon be up to more than the watch is worth, that's the problem.

Yes, if it was mine and I had a sentimental reason to restore it and keep it, I would buy 082ST1660020 which is the steel bezel from Cousins and have it gold plated. A full gold bespoke bezel would cost the earth. My way would still be £250 or so, I suspect.

Thanks again all. Yes the watch does have sentimental value so I'd love to be able to restore and wear it. If I can keep the cost sensible!

There is absolutely no way of telling unless one can see the case reference numbers inside the back. Those numbers would have to be identical to your watch for that to work. Because your watch seems to have English hallmarks it is even more unlikely that you will find a donor case.

The glass is not a problem, you can get a crystal to fit almost anything as long as you don't mind a generic one. It is the bezel which will determine the crystal you need. Remember, you also need the correct dial and hands - the dial has to be the correct diameter and have the correct feet for your movement also.
