Could anybody tell me if this is a genuine Ranchero. The minutehand was replaced before I found it. But it is still keeping time. Thanks in advance, Lux
Wow, a white dialed 2990. That's even the correct crown for it. Should have a caliber 267 inside. To be sure we need much better pics - especially of the dial, inside of the caseback, and movement. Lookin' good so far though.
There it is - a 267 inside a 2990. The dial picture isn't quite good enough to say 100% but it's passing muster from what I see. How much are they asking?
I bought it because I liked the way it looked, not sure whether it was genuine. Wasn't expensive, because it was just an old watch to the people who sold it. What do you estimate a watch like this one would be worth? It is in good condition, still keeping time. The only thing is that the movement seems to be sitting a bit loose in the case (missing a rubber ring?? no idea...).
I don't follow Ranchero prices, but that's certainly not on the cheap side of the scale even in the condition it's in. There's a thread here about a very nice original black dial Railmaster that was quite pricy: http://omegaforums.net/threads/need-help-comfirming-this-railmaster-authentic-or-not.455/ Not exactly the same watch, but similar. Couldn't tell you how much less your Ranchero would sell for, but probably quite a bit. Check this link for Rancheros: http://catalog.antiquorum.com/catalog.html or eBay completed listing for "Ranchero" in Omega.
Do you think you'll keep it and wear it or are you looking at restoring it for sale? I don't mind either way, just curious
I might consider selling it. But do you think it is necessary to restore it? Wouldn't a buyer prefer having it in original state, so he has the choice how it will be restored. I don't know if there are any good watchmakers in my area (Flanders, Belgium). (I received a certina ds from my grandfather. I've it to a watchmaker nearby, and it came back with big scratches on the case and it wasn't even running right.... Afterwards I tried an other watchmaker, and it still wasn't properly done...)
If you're thinking of selling it, don't have it restored, sell as-is so you can be truthful about its originality.
Agreed. The seasoned Omega collector wants the watch as it is. Each will have their own watchmaker that they trust.
But with not original minute hand and lose movement and the condition of this watch , the price must dropp pretty much
Hey lux - I know a guy (long time member of several forums) who has a very good watchmaker in Begium. I think his name is Fergie and he used to work for Omega. I'll shoot the guy I know a message and see if the watchmaker is still in the business.
