How about a watch that gives local time, GMT, the position of the sun and the time in all 24 zones simultaneously. Here you can see, at a glance, that it's quitting time in the eastern US and wake-up time tomorrow in Oz.

There's a modified ETA cal 2774 inside ticking at 28,800 bph. Instead of a date wheel, it drives a continuously rotating planisphere disk that makes one full rotation every 24 hours. Just set the rotatable inner bezel and you have the position of the sun and the time all over the world. The case is a 42mm "super waterproof" monobloc made by Piquerez, opened via the front bezel... it helps to have a special 14-sided wrench.

A common problem with these watches is breakdown of the gasket beneath the bezel, which oozes out and mucks up the outer seconds ring. Another thing to watch out for is after-market replacement dials, which are quite common. Mine appears to be all original, but there is gasket goo on that outer ring.

The Geoscope was produced in both left- and right-handed models. The lefty models seem relatively common, even showing up in the advertising.

That one has always been on my grail list. A watchmaker that I used to use had several NOS dials for these.

Very hard to find in decent condition and when you do...be prepared to do this! ::money::

PS - You know that when you buy the watch, you must also buy this outfit:

A very important question - if you aren't of the Jewish faith, can you still wear a watch with the Star of David prominently displayed?

This one will be a project, because of the gooped up seconds ring. I wonder if that can be cleaned up a bit without ruining it. I've been looking for a while, though, and this is the first original-looking specimen with any potential that I've seen in a long time, so I grabbed it. So many end up looking like this:

I think there's a busy Geoscope "restoration" industry. The Germans talked about this recently.

I did see a Geoscope bracelet for sale recently, but didn't have the foresight to pick it up prospectively, LouS-style.

Yes, you just have to be a righteous gentile or at least a mensch. Got it covered.

Just started on the mutton chops. Now arranging trip to Savile Row to meet with Patrick Macnee's tailor.

Yes, but you have to donate a certain part of your anatomy, if you haven't had it done already. ::jumpy::

Nice pickup! Yup, want to avoid those laser printed re-dials, and yes, I literally mean some guy in India printing out an ugly scan on a color laser printer then gluing it to the dial.

Here's an interesting link I came across a while back.

Couldn't resist the urge to use my new wrench.

Much easier to appreciate the topography of the dial with the crystal off. The three-dimensionality of the paint isn't so apparent head on...

...but at an angle it stands out in relief.

Without intending to be 'hemispherist', I wonder why its south pole not north?

I suspect there would be too much crowding of cities if the northern hemisphere were at the center of the dial.

I have the newer Edox Geoscope watch, which has not got the orange markings on the hours. My expert watchmaker told me that he is confident the movement is original, an ETA2789, and the casing and the strap is original also. He is not sure about the dial however, as he has not seen one before to be able to compare and confirm its authenticity. Mine is the same as the watch above with the steel bracelet and silver hour marks. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

They're a fascinating watch, what kind of money do they run?

In the uhrforum thread I linked to above ( http://uhrforum.de/edox-geoscope-wer-hat-2-typen-t161176 ), user Geoscope contends that the ones without orange hour markers and with just "EDOX Swiss" (no "Geoscope"), using the ETA 2789, are replicas. I believe he is right. And there are some very good fake cases out there. It's hard to say too much about your watch without hi-res photos.

I would expect to pay at least $2500-3000 for one in decent original shape, without box/papers/bracelet.

There is also the other reason that if you make the map North Pole centric, the numbering on the 24h ring would have to run the other way, which would make it a bit counter intuitive. Alternatively, you couldn't show the time, but would rather have to refer to +/- GMT, as JlC has done:
    http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/jaeger-lecoultre-duometre-unique-travel-time/
...but that exemplifies that you have to drop the one hemisphere, or end up with most major cities close to the center.

I really love these watches (have two of the originals myself). Wonder why no other watch makers have copied the idea... Anyhow, hard to get parts for them, which proves to be my biggest problem with being addicted to these watches.

Some great pix here as well:

And then there are two rather rare ones for sale:
