Hi, Here is my little collection 1. Speed 105.012-65 with chocolate dial 2. Speedymoon 345.0809 with original 1447 bracelet 3. Speed ck 2915-2 with original 7077 bracelet 4. Seamaster 300 big triangle 165.024 5. Seamaster 300 date big triangle 166.024 6. Flightmaster 145.026 with chocolate dial I also had this 1966 speed but I sold it yesterday
Don't wish to rehash previous discussions on the originality of this 2915-2 but my concerns about the watch stand.
I must confess I am not a Speedy expert but I have done my homework, especially on this forum under the guidance of the Speedy experts here... I have studied the pictures closely and I have found 2 facts which concern me a bit: 1) The dial seems to be from a later CK 2998 (five minute hashes on the sub dial at three are too long!) 2) Usually the wording "Speedmaster" on the back sits on the outer rim (one of the facets) - at least on my 2915-2 But I think the experts will chime in soon and clarify these facts
1) Yes you are right, this dial was used on the 2998-1 and 2998-2 in 1959-1960. But my 2915 has been produced in 1959, so I think that the dial could be correct... It is difficult to be sure because we don't have a lot of information about the first Lemania-produced speedies. 2) The first 2915-2 had the word speedmaster on the outer rim, but not the last ones. My caseback is correct and has never been refinished.
As mentioned in another forum, I respectfully disagree about the dial - I think it is incorrect for the 2915-2 (in fact I think there are enough examples of the 2915 dials being used up to 2998-1 which is where I believe the transition to the long hash marks in the 3 o'clock subdial occurred). I also of the opinion that the bezel is not original to the watch - it is one of those made in Germany - the font style is close but not identical. There is also the issue of the outer caseback having more scratches and age than the bezel - quite unlikely as the outer caseback has much less exposure when worn. Speedmaster experts here like BASE1000 will I am sure give their opinion.
I really like this watch. If the dial is not original, it has probably been produced a couple of months after the watch, so it's not a big problem for me. I could look for a correct dial but it won't be easy. I'm not a bezel specialist, I just know that there were different styles.
Even if I think that MSN is right, it might be a rude attitude to detail all what is right and wrong. He did not present his collection to be attacked.
I think when an omega is presented here, comments about the watch both positive or negative come with the territory. I think this is especially true when a rare model like the 2915 speedmaster is presented.
