Stumbled across this piece of news on a new 'e-strap' device from Montblanc:

Basically a self-contained smartwatch unit that can be worn on the desk-side of a NATO strap, allowing one to wear whatever you like on the watch-side. I think it's a nice concept and preferable to another wrist device - though I'm still not sold on the actual benefits of constant wrist-mounted notifications and interruptions. What say you?

I saw that at aBlogtoWatch. One thing it did was to take me to the Apple Watch site to see if the smaller version might have just lug loops so that it could be fitted on the underside of a Nato-styled strap. I think it will be too bulky for that, but as an iPhone user, it did get me thinking.

I'm also not convinced. And it certainly ain't gonna displace my watches most of the time. But there are situations. Just about any time, gym, walking, out and about, driving, etc. where the phone is in my pocket and inconvenient to pull out to check alerts. And some of the exercise apps might be handy there too. Oh, and Apple Pay with my 5S.

But I'm afraid it's gonna have to be a strap mounted device for me. So I'm glad to see companies starting to go there.
