I remember when I was new at this and saw the Helvetia dial - I thought for sure that spinning propeller had to be some kind of Ukrainian fake motif, like the little Stukas or tanks they put on their so-called military pocket watch conversions. 馃槣

It must have really stood out at a time that most companies were content to just write their name on the dial.

I know what you mean. I've seen lots of Frankens with a plane on it. The Helvetias are a nice version of the pilot watch, which was made to the same designs by dozens of companies. Some names lost in the mists of time and some that can set you back quite a bit. One of the nicest is also the Zentth Special, which I'll post on the Zenith website when I get a moment.

They're a lovely big watch which is nice to wear with a real flavour of their original functional design.

Thanks river rat. A nice example you have yourself. Is it a metal dial one as well?

Yes it's a metal dial also made around 1946 from what Longines told me when I email them about the history of it. It was a issued one has the serial number and MAJETEK VOJENSKE SPRAVY on the back.

Congrats. It's really nice that Longines still have all the records still intact. I always think it's very special when the orignal maker can send you information about your watch. One of the things that makes collecting them so fascinating.

I don't think it is the strap that I got with this watch river rat, I can't remember which watch it did come with, however it is a vintage strap and it would have got it with a different pilots watch from the same sort of era. So I would say it would be period correct.

In terms of the Longines, the links I posted before show some period advertising and catalogues which show the type of straps supplied. They were pretty simple non-bund style straps.
