This one looks pretty sweet to me. Unfortunately, he doesn't post a movement pic, but I have asked. Is there anything else I need to be concerned about before making an offer? Should there be blue water on the caseback? Or, was that not always the case(lol)? http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENTS-VINTA...es_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item54109b8b3bPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Caseback appears to have been previously removed, by a Blindman, suffering from Palsy, with a pair of blunt scissors, .......as usual. Think there is much better out there..........'Patience & Fortitude'
Oh, my! You are so right. Obviously, I didn't look at the back closely enough. As for the lack of blue water, is that just because it's already worn off, most likely? Or were some Flags produced without it?
There should be green water and blue sky. The medallions on steel and gold-capped models were painted. The solid gold watches had the ship in relief on the case back, without paint.
So, the one above might be a swapped medallion? At any rate, the lack of blue/green is not consistent with 'gold-capped' as the seller claims it is...
The medallion in the listing is correct, but all the paint has come off. The solid gold Flagships have the ship in relief on the case back itself... not really a medallion.
Great information! Thank you. I really hope to find one in better shape. Gold-capped would be my preference, as I do want to wear it, and there's not too many occasions where I'd feel comfortable wearing a 'flashy' solid gold one... although for the right price... maybe I'd 'adapt'!!
Question: Did Longines make an early Flagship with a case >37mm? Or was that not until the 70's or later?
37mm was not common in that era, 37mm in a dress watch was considered "oversize" or "jumbo" back then
Not for the domestic (Swiss) or European markets, as far as I know. Things get a bit tricky with respect to the South American markets, and it is possible that there were over-sized variations sold there in the '60s.
Alpha has a conquest for sale , that would make a good daily wearer http://omegaforums.net/threads/longines-conquest-calendar-19asd.17914/
Yes, I see... I like it alot, except I try to avoid watches with 'date'... that's not to mention it looks like someone took a pair of scissors to the caseback!
They used to make Flagship 30L in a 39.5mm case (without crown). Needless to say, they are exceptionally rare.
