Wow, the 18k version looks very nice. Interesting to see the pricing, the golden one is more that twice of the price of the stainless steel version.

It is a poster I have on my wall in the office. I guess it is same band that is on your nice watch

Yes, it sure looks like the same strap, only with golden buckle. Otherwise the buckle is also the same, so like I suspected already earlier the strap is most likely original

    Got an answer from Longines

    Dear Mr xxx,
We thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Longines watches.
Further to your request, we are pleased to provide the information contained in Longines' handwritten registers. Originally, the serial number 9'990'257 identifies a wrist-watch in stainless steel bearing the reference 9000, part of the Conquest collection. It is fitted with a Longines mechanical self-winding movement, caliber 19AS and was invoiced on the 27th February 1957 to our agent for Finland.
We trust that we have responded satisfactorily to your request and remain at your entire disposal for any additional information.
    Best regards,
    Aurélie Tonna
    Brand Heritage

Pretty much as expected, the only news was that it was sold (or invoiced?) on February 1957. Unfortunately there was no production date stated in their reply, but from other sources it is either 1955 or 1956

Thanks, I guess the best source for information are these watch forums and finding the actual watch, their "for sale" sections, eBay too if you are lucky. I was lucky to find this from a local Web shop specialised in vintage watches run by a fellow collector/watch enthusiast here in Finland

Glad you got an answer from Longines. They are always so helpful.
I think your watch is made late in 1956, according to the schedule I have.
Longines has in his basement all books, handwritten data about watches and once I got copies of a watch I asked about.

Yes, late 1956 would match for the invoicing date quite well. I'm happy with the information they gave me, maybe I will ask for that copy as well sometime later.

Wow. I think I prefer this watch in stainless with the gold dial markers/furniture over the solid gold model.

I'm probably not telling you something you don't already know but having a complete set like that can add 50 to 100% or even more to the value of these sorts of vintage watches. Terrific find and the watch itself looks to be mint+ condition. I love those faceted lugs…

    I was green with envy...

    I no longer am...

Must say, however, that envy is a bloody expensive thing to get rid of.
