A time-only gold pocket watch from the early 20th C.? Not sure why anyone thinks it is worth more than a few thousand $, if that.

    Because it's PP

    (I don't share the view)

Even PP though, you can get a wearable non-vintage but not new Calatrava for that range like a 3520, this pocket watch is just going to collect dust and tarnish

    Yep.

This is a broad generalization (not the same thing as all the new female generals running the new american military):

the value of most vintage wristwatches is a function of the new wristwatches made by the current houses.

if a new pp complicated costs $80,000, then used (older) models will have high values.
There are exceptions where some older references will be worth more or watches from totally defunct houses are very valuable but, generally, the value of old is a denominated by the price of new.

if pocket watches suddenly became en vogue for a while and the PP starting price for a new pocket watch was say 100k, then the above watch would now be worth maybe 25k or more...

It's pretty, but not for me. I'd pass.

I recently was shown a nicer Patek from about 1895 for about $5000 CDN... solid gold, fully serviced and in excellent condition (I really looked it over closely with a 10x loop) and it didn't sell too quickly. Pass.

Patek time only pocket watch can be had from any price between 3000-10000 usd depending on the ref., material and artistic features (the engraving, decorations etc, not cloisonné enamel though as those can be on a different league). Size is from early 40mm to mid 50mm

the movement seen in the OP's picture is similar to the chronometro gondolo which is a very popular model resulting from early 1900 collaboration between Patek and a brazilian retailer. The case though is not of this model as the model name itself will be alphabetically engraved on the back of the case. This series usually fetch around 5k USD at auctions.

In my opinion 12000 is way too pricey for the watch in question here and if you just take a quick look around you can easily find similar samples at sub4.5k usd.

wirh some luck one can even find platinum PP pocket watch for around 5-6k usd. One can also go for VC time only and pay even less (also interesting material on VC like the 439 caliber which is made of aluminum)

good of luck with your purchase

I had a similar Patek...simple time keeper, officer case back (also engraved) beautiful engraved movement.

I paid $2,000.US 20 years ago sold it 10 years ago. I was lucky to get my money back, let alone any return

I have since learned that simple Patek pocket watches are not the most desired. IMHO...$4k to $5k tops.

For $12,000, you could easily get a vintage 18k Patek minute repeater watch on Ebay. Don't consider this for a second.

Only the one above would be worthy of any interest.
My bad, I did not realize you were referring to a Patek pocket watch.
Maybe no Patek minute repeater wrist watch for less than 6 figures?
Regardless, almost any Patek minute repeater would be worthwhile, especially under 10k.
Thanx for keeping me on track.

Yeah - a wrist watch minute repeater would be crazy, crazy expensive.

By the way, I removed the other two, as I can't be sure if they're actually Patek.

Interestingly modest proposal's repeater and OP's has exactly identical hands whiled the dial print is very similar. Both are probably from the same time period.

I agree - again...They weren't Patek. The movement finish tells all.

Actually, I think the one modesr proposal points to look correct though, best request for an archive to confirm since we have both the serial no. And movement no. And it cost only 100ish. The OP one I need to see the case back first. The movement finish from early 1900 kind of look like what is shown.

MikiJ was referring to two other examples I posted and then removed. I suspected they weren't Patek repeaters, even though they were advertised as being so.
