Ooh! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a picture of the reference number 145.012-66 stamped on the inside of a Speedy case lid!

    Anyone?...

I've seen it mentioned that Buzz was issued a 105.012 but that was not the watch he wore to the moon. He was issued a new one for that which supposedly was a 145.012. Collins was definitely a 145.012, but either a 67 or 68. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Well, i can tell the information around is contradictory and i also doubt about the 145.012-66.
In the Isnardi's price guide it is mentioned 145.012 - 1966, but no pictures of such specimen.

There's also the response offered by Mr. John R Diethelm to Mr. John Hannover which mentions the case ref.:
"The cases for the “Moon watch” have not always been produced at the same time as the watches were produced, therefore, you might find in 1968 cases having the ref. 145.012-68 if they have been supplied in the year 1968…otherwise you might find some “older” cases with the reference +145.012-66 ( -67) fitted with a movement having been produced later…

Therefore, the production year of the CASE is not always identical with the production year of the movement or even of the complete watch delivery time."

In 2004, based on the Omega Museum archives research, Mr. Jean Luc Miranda made some corrections to these information available to public.
    Buzz Aldrin's Apollo 11 Speedmaster was actually a 145.012-68 delivered 11/1968 and Collin's 145.012-68 delivered 12/1968.
    Armstrong's Speedmaster was a 105.012-66 delivered 08/1966.

Probably the first to conclude or to go public that Aldrin's moonwatch was a 145.012 was Mr. Chuck Maddox after having the confirmation from Mr. John Diethelm, earlier then Mr. Miranda's research.

Since my Omega bibliography could not help (SAGA, ATC (1998), The Moon Watch, Isnardi, John Golberg's books, etc.), and since the information was not updated, i though the 105.012-66 and 145.012-66 (?) refs. being the correct refs for Apollo 11 mission.
I am only/still missing the AJTT book as it's nowhere available, neither on WatchTime; so i don't know if the information about the Apollo 11 Speedmasters have been updated, since it was published in 2007 but from what i could read on a WUS thread there's a note about the 145.012-66.

    I have read that Armstrong's Speedy was a -65, not a -66?

Well, the watch (or shitty piece, according to the marturx fellar :p ) finally came in. Can’t say there’s any bad surprises compared to what the above pics showed. Bracelet is a pretty nice 1450 (comes with extra links). Box and papers in very good condition. Of course I would have preferred a more crisp monster and the whole case shines a bit too much, but the edges is actually more sharp (or faces less rounded, if you like), than the pics showed (pics below isn't much better). I’ve never had a NOS case in my hands, though, so nothing to compare with......
    A couple of Q’s:
    1) Chrono sec. hand looks newer than the hour and minute hands, but all three glows the same short time. If the chrono sec. hand is newer than the two others, shouldn’t it glow longer then?
    2) The minute markers are completely dead, but still as white as the hands. Is that normal? On my -62 and -67 speedies they’re more yellowed, so….
    Bunch of pics:

    Thanks.

Can't tell for sure from the pics,
but your question about the 5 minute plots:
It looks as if the lume has been scraped off completely
from these. That might be why they are white without
even a faint glow. Check them with a loop. Also
if you shine a UV light on the dial they should glow, dead
or not, they should glow under UV.

the minute and hour hand always seem to catch more dirt
and thus are usually darker looking than second hand
    on a well used Speedmaster

Checked with a loop - believe you're right that the lume is gone.

    Thanks.

You bought it right. You have no problem.
When the lume starts coming apart,
it doesn't look good, and those pieces
can get into the movement. Hence the reason
the lume is completely removed sometimes.

Thanks pitpro, and thanks for all other comments too

What does everyone do with dials like this - do you have "lume" in patina color added, or do you leave it as is? Will adding it hurt the value, or....?

Depends...what's the final price on the one in your link? If it doesn't change it's a better deal. If it sells for $4k, it's not.
The one from the OP has the old style bezel (dot over 90), old style dial (metal applied Omega logo), and old style case (no Moon verbiage), and box, and papers. All more desirable than the one you linked.
Keep learning and asking questions! This forum is where I learned...

Thanks! I am in the market for a speedy, but have tons of questions on it. I want to buy one at the bottom of the price "horse shoe".... If that makes sense. I was debating on a reduced, but I am not sure that will do.

Is the one I provided a good price for $2k?

I hope I'm not out of line here, but perhaps you could start a new thread here in Omega Vintage about that watch? That way you'll attract more responses, and we'll continue to discuss the original subject of this thread.

Why ask for opinions if you can´t take the negative ones? You got mostly positive comments on your watch and a few negative, so why not quote one of the positive instead?

I´m surely not going to comment on any of your watches again, if you want only Yes-sayers around you

Funny how words can mean different things to different people.
I thought the quote (with its "feller" and smiley face) was just a tongue-in-cheek recognition that this watch was not everyone's cup of tea. I'd be honored to be quoted for my opinion, even if I were in the minority. To me that means my opinion counted, whether or not anyone agreed with me.
